Yes, that worked out so well for the Nottinghamshire miners, didn't it?
So is bending over and taking it up the choccy the reason you drive a cab now?

It can't be easy going through life all these years carrying all that hate and bitterness.
Sold his comrades up the river and got what in return?
His arse handed to him on a plate by Thatcher along with all the rest and thirty long years to blame everyone but himself for it.
Now he's rejoicing because the guys at Grangemouth are being shafted. His advice? Should have done what he did.

Thirty years have taught him bugger all.
You should pity him really. :-|

They did listen to the planks at Unite, IMO they deserve everything that Ratcliffe throws at them even if it means the sausage role.

I notice how they've agreed to a pay cut for 3 years, they'll still be on £55K a year plus add ons because Unite were in the brown stuff.

I think if there is a loser it's Unite, but as I said on another thread at least they had the balls to change their position.

But from what I can gather most involved are now happy. So someone must have done something right.

Nice, the way you completely ignore the fact that this actually started out with the union closing ranks and trying to close down disciplinary investigations into a man accused of using company time to pursue a political agenda completely unconnected with either the plant, or his role as a union rep there.

You union dinosaurs just don't get it. The 1970s have gone. You can't have them back. The days when British industry was characterised by the tail wagging the dog are gone, and good riddance.

Nice, the way you completely ignore the fact that the dispute over the union official was just an excuse by Ineos to intimidate the workforce into giving them what they wanted. Helped on by 35 years of anti union legislation, they have succeded and set a precident which will be followed by many other unscrupulous employers.

Ratcliffe and his scumbag company are a classic example of why workers need representation and why they need to stick together for their common good.

I'm no union dinosaur, Nidge and I was still at school in the 1970's.
In fact I haven't been a member of any union since my first job. It was a closed shop and everyone was a member. That was in the early 80's.
I remember the power the unions had in those days and it was too much. I don't want to go back to the days when unions held the country to ransom, often for their own agendas.

Now the balance has swung too far in the opposite direction.
We have companies blackmailing the country and treating working people like crap, all with the support of the right wing parties and media, and the aquiecence of the political party that is supposed to look out for them.

TBH, I'd be more worried about a return to the 1870's if I were you.

I'm pleased common sense has prevailed, When 1972 Union Idealogy meets 2013 Business reality it was only ever going to end in tears.

I'm just Pleased those Guys still have Jobs and their families have an income...regardless of who was at fault.
