Yeah, Gerry has a point - albeit one that involves criticising peoples beliefs - locking away those deemed as a threat (even though those doing the locking away are also deemed by him to be a threat) ](*,)

You could call it the lesser of two evils, when you consider that one side wants to hack your head off because a supernatural being in the sky told them it was a good idea because they read it in a book. ](*,)

Oh and I'm not criticising people's beliefs. I'm openly mocking them.Image

Here's Stephen Fry, giving the Catholic church an absolute roasting. What a talented man?

Oh and he's very polite about it, whereas I would just say, it's a load of shi*e. #-o

As I have said before - the choice seems to be getting your head hacked off by someone who thinks their doing their god a service - or an atheist putting you in a gas chamber for someone who actually thinks their a god.

The result is the same.

Bad people do bad things.

I hope you are not suggesting there is no Father Christmas? [-X

Oh and Blackpool, it's not an argument when one side of the debate does not require a shred of evidence for what they believe. It's quite simply the indoctrination and brainwashing of young minds. And as with all of these faith-based beliefs, it's taught in an atmosphere of fear, where if you don't believe there is an omnipotent being in the sky, you will be left out of heaven or damned to live out an eternity in hell.

This is not an argument or any kind of debate. It is quite simply, child abuse. And the people teaching this crap should be locked up. :-|

I think people like Dawkins, and Hichen's are far too kind to these religious nuts they are supposed to be debating. :-|

You are right about bad people doing bad things, but Hitler was not killing people in the name of Atheism and nor did he believe he was a God. In fact, that's a contradiction in terms.

He was just an evil nutcase that knew how to manipulate people through their fears and beliefs, a similar method to that used by brainwashing cults and religions, but it had nothing to do with Atheism.

You're an Atheist, I'd expect that kind of remark from you :-|

You are not making your position very clear Toots. Do you believe that God, spoke to man and told him to write his words, into a book? Image

I don't think I need to make any of my beliefs or non beliefs clear to anybody. It does not make my comment any less correct.

No it just means that you are embarrassed to tell people about your beliefs, and if you believe in some being, in the sky, speaking to man and telling him to write a book, then so you should be. #-o Image

Not to worry Toots, I always had you pegged as a true believer anyway. #-o

That is your opinion of me to which you are entitled. It does not however make you right about anything, you can't prove there is no God anymore than those that believe can prove there is a God.

If your views sound like something the Third Reich would have done, you can hardly be surprised. They are not typical of atheists, any more than Bin Laden's were of the average Muslim.

Just as there are differing views within a religion, there are differing views amongst atheists. Yours are pretty extreme, as are those of Dawkins and others. Even extremists don't agree.
Hitchens, who you've mentioned a few times, wouldn't have supported your calls for Blair to be tried as a war criminal. He'd probably have given him a medal.

TBH it makes little practical difference if the guy in charge says he gets his instructions from God, claims to be God or is just so persuasive that people buy into whatever sh*t he's selling.

It's still a means of control. :-|

I don't have to prove anything. That comes down to you because it's lunatics like you, who claim that God exists. You know, the word of God, and all that. #-o

Well, if he does, in fact, exist, then where's your evidence? The onus is on you.

Oh and Toots, I have you pegged as a good Catholic girl... #-o

[quote="gusmac"]TBH it makes little practical difference if I agree, but everything has a starting point and religion for the masses is where it is at.

I agree, but everything has a starting point and religion for the masses is where it is, just ask Toots? :-|

I don't ever recall saying or even writing that God exists, I think you have me pegged wrong, but, that wouldn't be the first time :-|
