Just had reason to consider another reason why Scotland should NOT become independent.
And that is because it is NOT really one nation.
The Norse would claim the Northern islands, the Highlands is a wholly separate culture, the lowlanders don't get on with anyone and those in the West would dominate all the rest.
I wouldn't trust Scotland not to come under the grip of the institutions in the West. You only have to look at the political machinations of the men in grey suits in the SFA as a prime example.
I wouldn't trust those from the West as far as I could throw them, those in Dundee who are generally incompetent in everything they do, and those in Grampian who are so insular they can't even bring themselves to argue for the essential upgrade of the A9.
As for the Borderers? Best they stay there. They've been in the sidings for so long they no longer relate to anyone.
Scotland is a bit like Iraq, with its Sunni Muslims, Shia Muslims and the Kurds. It was only the yoke of Saddam Hussein that kept them from each others throats. The same could be said about the Balkans where Marshal Tito achieved the same. And Gaddaffi in Libya.
If history teaches us anything, you break up a country and you get the vested interest scavengers picking over the bones, each trying to get as much of the corpse as possible.
Dark days indeed.
