Generic Letter to MSP/MP: Bedroom Tax.

by Saynoto Bedroomtax on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 10:04pm ·...

My name is xxxxxxxx xxxxxxx and I wish to bring to your attention my anger at the under-occupancy element of the Welfare Reform Bill 2012 (The Bedroom Tax) which will be made law on the 1st April 2013.

This rancid piece of legislation will bring havoc to the most vulnerable families in Scotland. In the UK, 660,000 of the poorest and most vulnerable in our society will affected by the bedroom tax with over 400,000 disabled people will be affected by this law(1). It is unfair that they and other vulnerable sections of our society are being hardest hit by Governmental cut.

The Governments claims that the bedroom tax will save money and improve our housing system. Yet their own impact assessment admits that there are not enough one bedroom homes for the 'bedroom tax' to work.(3) And there is serious questions marks over the savings to the taxpayer. For example, Renfrewshire Council has stated that the bedroom tax will cost them £1.8m(4). Tenants will be forced to the private sector where rents are higher. In England the average private rent is £163 while social housing rent was £83(5) and that increase shall be bourne by the taxpayer

As my elected representative I call on you to do the following:

I call on you to support and sign the Govan Law Centre Trust petition will be ammend housing laws in Scotland so that tenants will not be evicted for debts accrued due to the Bedroom Tax.(2)

I call on you to encourage you political party to publicly endorse the aforementioned petition and the No2Bedroom Tax Campaign.

I call on you to do your utmost to stop the bedroom tax becoming law.

I call on you to do your utmost to protect your electorate from eviction.

Kind Regards

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXxx

Doomed to failure simply because the author keeps calling it "the bedroom tax" when it is no such thing. If you are going to do something at least use the proper terms.
