We live in a secular society and the last thing this country need is religious beliefs being taught in Schools to impressionable children. Science I believe is the only safe way to teach children about the natural world and to properly integrate them into society.

There should be no state provision made for brainwashing children in the name of any religion, in 21st century Britain. The teaching of religious faith in Schools is tantamount to child abuse and there should be a law against it.

Your thoughts... :-|

Down here the best schools are generally faith schools, so maybe it's some sort of abuse not to send the kids there.

And how do you come by that little nugget Sussex? You do realise, that I am talking about teaching children by way of the educational curriculum and Science as apposed to faith and believing in supernatural beings?

Did it ever occur to you that to fill a child's head full of a lot of mythical shi* is doing a lot more harm to their education than good?

Oh and Sussex, having faith in fairy stories does absolutely nothing for one's education, especially if you believe it to be true :-|

Tell me Sussex, do you have faith in fairies at the bottom of the garden or an omnipotent being, in the sky, which is it? #-o Oh and btw, where did you get your information? #-o

YES. How many practicing people of faith do you know? Let me put it this way, I don't know anyone who goes to church. Oh and while they might have gone to a faith school, of some sort, the vast majority, are non practicing. Church attendance is almost exclusively reserved for oap's who were brought up in the fear, if they didn't believe in God, they would go to hell. :-|

While I agree, the C of E is the official religion of England and has a constitutional position for the United Kingdom.
We are therefore not a secular society. God gets a say.

Not a situation I agree with BTW.

Well then, in a practical sense how many members of the clergy do you know? The C of E can call it what they like but churches for the most part are empty of parishioners. :-|

It's only the purple rinse mob you see going to church around where I live. :)

Same here. Kirk is in terminal decline.
Most of the churches are doing a roaring trade as casinos, nightclubs and trendy apartments.

The God business ain't what it used to be.

Well, do you agree with the premise of the thread. Should the government allow the brainwashing of children from an early age, or is it an act of child abuse? :-|

That's a leading question

Personally, I don't think any faith should be taught in schools. Not something I'd get all bent out of shape over, though.
I certainly don't think the state should be paying in any way shape or fashion to support any religion. It's their belief, they should pay for it.

So, by and large, you agree with the brainwashing of children, as an acceptable form of child abuse, as long as religion pays for it.

You assume that I agree it is brainwashing and or child abuse. If either were true, then we were all brainwashed and abused children. Not sure I'd agree with that.

Do you consider yourself to have been an abused child, Skull?

I think you could call it abuse, but I was a rebel from an early age. I consider myself as one of the lucky ones. I didn't believe in their shi* and I couldn't accept the program. It was hell though, it's like being held prisoner by your own mind. It actually makes me feel breathless just thinking about it. :-|

Like you, I rejected religion at an early age. No real conflicts though, I just let the bullsh*t go in one ear and out the other.

You've got to admit though, if it's brainwashing, it's not very effective. All those closed churches and empty pews are testament to that.
