SCOTS BEING HAMMERED BUY HIGH PRICES AT THE PUMP SHOWS NEED FOR FUEL DUTY REGULATOR The higher price of fuel particularly in remote areas of Scotland continues to cause concern, with motorists in some areas paying up to 40 percent a litre more than in many other EU nations, as reported today in the Scottish Sun newspaper. Commenting, SNP MEP Ian Hudghton said: “Westminster’s fuel taxes are the key element causing problems for motorists and hauliers in Scotland. We have been enduring these taxes imposed by Westminster for far too long, as rising costs of fuel have hammered householders and small businesses, especially in rural areas." Angus MacNeil SNP MP, and Transport spokesman added: “We need a stabilisation measure to bring prices under control, and the SNP have consistently called for the introduction of a fuel duty regulator which is a simple and effective way to get price stability for all those motorists, businesses and householders being hit every day. Scotland is an oil-rich country and the fact that we suffer from some of highest fuel taxes in the EU is because of Westminster policy. And we know that only a Yes vote in September 2014 will bring control of fuel duty to the Scottish parliament, so that we can implement a fuel duty regulator at long last Notes : http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol ... urope.html |
