I must have missed New Labour making it illegal, or New Old Labour proposing to abolish it.

Since they are all cut from the same cloth, you missed nothing.

Now how about a comment on the morality of these contracts and the people who use them?

I would have thought a driver from a seasonable tourist area would understand the need for such contracts.

I think some on here would sooner employers didn't employ.

I think that's a poor excuse for exploitation.

But not every employer exploits.

If an employer needs help, depending on when he gets orders as an example, then surely it's best he gives someone some work rather than no-one.

Not every employer is a multi-national.

Companies and staff on zero-hours contracts:
McDonald's: 82,800

JD Wetherspoon: 24,000

Sports Direct: 20,000

Spirit Group: 16,000

Boots: 4,000

Buckingham Palace 350 summer workers
Try telling people on these contracts that its 'silly' when there wondering if there will be enough work to feed the kids or pay the bills

Because every employer doesn't exploit is a pi$$ poor excuse for allowing others to.

If you are not guaranteed any work, you are not guaranteed any pay and you can't work elsewhere unless your employer allows it.
Now that's exploitation.

In the past, seasonal contracts were used. This allowed the employer to take on staff when required and let them go when the demand was gone. Seaside resorts like Blackpool - and yours btw - know when the busy season is.
Casual labour when required filled the gaps, but they could work for anyone without being tied to any particular employer.
Not ideal but better than this modern day chattel slavery.
These contracts are an exploiters' charter which bypass decades of hard won workers rights.

All very Tory, expect them to become the norm.
