Great if you're the employer. Sack employee one day, saving the cost of his wages, NI etc etc. Get a replacement the next day, paid for by the state and at no cost to you. What a jolly wheeze! Pay off everyone and get the state to supply free labour to replace them all. Hell you might even get the same workforce back again

Personally I think if there are jobs out there for the unemployed to do (on workfare) they should be properly employed doing them |

So if the unemployed are going to have to do some kind of work for their money, which I do agree with, then that work must attract at least the minimum wage. |

Lets get this in perspective tho because there is a culture of people who think that all our financial problems are caused by the unemployed, it is government policy to have at least 2 million unemployed workers available, if there wasn't we'd all be getting better paid. Unemployment benefit is less than 3% of overall costs to the government and the other associated benefits are still available to low income families. Clearly something needs to be done about the long term unemployed, but, once again the majority are paying for the minority. Perhaps you'd like to see those able to drive freely trained, licenced and set to work offering their services as free taxis to those on low incomes

Be careful what you wish for.  How many of the drivers on here would think it's a good idea if their manor were suddenly flooded out with hundreds of workfare cabbies? Or do they think workfare's a fine idea, so long as it's someone else's living that's going to get trashed? That's the trouble with this sort of jingoistic bullshit.
