Regarding the living wage of £9 per hour, is it compulsory ? It wasn't made clear.
There's the minimum wage that HAS to be paid (£6.50) and the living wage which is what they reckon you need to have a decent standard of living (currently £7.20) which is just a recommendation.

I've mentioned before that to achieve minimum wage you need to average a take of around £13 per hour, if the living wage becomes the minimum then your take has to go up to £16 per hour AVERAGE. So are fares going to go up by either £1 on the drop or 30p a mile ?? :!:

If not I can't see myself driving for a living in 5 years time, might as well get the easiest, lowest paid job there is for a guaranteed £9 per hour (plus sick pay, holidays and pension) rather than stay on my current earnings of minimum wage or below. eusasmiles.zip

£9.00 will be compulsory for all, its on one of the BBC news pages,
So that will mean an end to the tax loophole where vehicle owners clam drivers are self employed

I don't think it will effect employment status in the way that you think.

£18,720.00p per annum iffffff you can get a 40 hour working week........hardly setting the world on fire in any event. At the moment the market is swamped with zero hour contracts, meaning that the welfare budget is continuing to subsidise BIG business pay rolls, and we pay for that, (boy what a scam). So long as we have that kind of mentality this country will never be able to move forward.

It's not compulsory, they've got rid of the minimum wage which the Tories have been after getting rid of for years, don't forget they were against the NMW when Liebour bought it in years ago.

So, if £9ph becomes the new minimum wage for how many of you is that greater than you currently earn driving a cab ? Or how many of you earn less than £18720pa before tax driving for at least 40 hours a week ?
I make less than £18720pa
