The Kiddie fiddler got away again

Thames Valley Police were called to regarding an incident of criminal damage allegedly committed by Prince Andrew.
Prince Andrew had reportedly driven his car into some gates at the edge of Windsor Great Park, forcing them open and causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage. This was a deliberate act of vandalism committed out of impatience and petulance.
The incident was widely covered in the press, including the Sun, Guardian, Telegraph and Mirror.
Why this matters
One of the fundamental principles we claim to live by is the rule of law and the simple idea that we are all equal in the eyes of the law. Yet this incident was not reported to the police by the Crown Estate, who own the park, and the police had taken no steps to investigate. I cannot believe that would have been the case had the damage been caused by anyone else.
Some people think the incident itself is trivial. Perhaps it is - although I doubt it's the kind of behaviour any of us would normally find acceptable. But the principle isn't trivial at all. If there is one rule for us and another rule for the royals then we are not equal in the eyes of the law.
The Crown Estate is essentially a public authority that raises revenue for the taxpayer. It is not the property of the royals, yet the estate has refused to comment on the case and behaves as if they have no accountability to the public. As well as Prince Andrew the Crown Estate has questions to answer.
Help us do more
My reporting of the incident to the police has also been covered in the press. While the police have continued to resist taking any action - coming up with various implausible excuses - we will continue to press the matter with them. It is unacceptable that a man can willfully cause damage to property and get away with it simply because of his status and family.
This is why we challenge the royals on a range of issues, whether flouting the law, interfering in politics or abusing public money. These issues raise important points of principle as well as practical objections to the monarchy. They also help raise Republic's profile.
