Here's a killer for you. When they closed Thorsby Colliery last year on the last production shift they closed it there and then, they drove the locos into the pit bottom the last man came out and that was it. They turned the night shift away and told them to go home. They told the day shift to cut the machine into the coal and leave it, basically when they day shift came out that was it they turned everything off. Within a week the shafts had steel plates over them and the water pipes in the shaft were filled in with pea gravel, the whole shooting match was left down there.

Where's all that water going to go because Thorsby was a wet pit? The tree huggers will blame it on something and not the fact that UK Coal turned the pumps off.

On the very rare windy days that we get, we have a surplus

A surplus is just waste as it can't be stored.

Just like solar, what about the cold dark nights when there's no sun or wind just clear skies with temperatures of minus 8?

With the power supply we've got at the moment it's there at the flick of a switch, it can't be stored like Bloodnock said.

Actually it can BUT it is an expensive and technologically challenging feat to do it

You could fit a pulley to the bit that turns and make a frame to hold an alternator connect the 2 with a belt and you will be generating electricity.

I think they have a massive bank of mobile batteries somewhere in America but it only delivers low power for lighting.
