The struggle for affordable homes for the lower paid has been lost due to TORY bottlers,you will now see a large rise in people overcrowding,even perhaps homelessness,they have now skewed the housing market into the hands of the rich,the person on the so called living wage will never be able to get onto the housing ladder.The days of slums are going to return.

but the new stamp duty rules should put off buy to let speculators. Whilst I don't agree with selling off rented accommodation it is difficult for lower income families to get on the housing ladder and this might enable some to own their own homes

the point is why shouldn't people aspire to being home owners why should that be an exclusively middle class thing

People can't afford to buy now, there's only these part ownership schemes which will rinse the tits off anyone who hasn't read the small print.

Can you explain that please? both my step son and one of my sons have used this method without any problems. My stepson now owns his own house and my son is looking at buying another 25% of the house he is in. The mortgage payments are almost the same as the rental payments pro rata so it seems like a no brainer.

Rent a % then mortgage on the rest? What happens when the interest rates go up which they are going to do soon. People will be screwed with no equity in their property. Rent to buy is OK while the rates are as they are now, it's when they go up that's when the problems start.
