A law firm is taking action to ensure the formal process for the UK leaving the EU is not started without an act of Parliament.

Mishcon de Reya, lawyers acting for a group of business people and academics, said it would be unlawful for a prime minister to trigger Article 50 without a full debate and vote in Parliament.

It comes after the UK voted to leave the EU in the 23 June referendum.

The government said Parliament had "a role" to find "the best way forward".

Following the referendum, David Cameron announced he would stand down as prime minister by October and would leave his replacement to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.

Once the legal process is triggered there is a two-year time limit to negotiate an exit deal from the EU.

We are leaving. No doubt about it.

And as Boris mentioned today it's about time the government got on with it.

The chap may be right and it may need an act of parliament. There may well be a debate in the commons before any vote. However it would be political suicide for certain people who don't let it pass. I would think there would be many abstentions.

And what happens if after 2 years negotiations a deal acceptable to the people of the UK is not reached?

Lets get rid of the bankrupt state before October 2016, that my friends is when the Turks will come to Europe then in a short few months after they'll be flooding into the UK.

I would not trust the above claim from any politician, whether it is 1 or 35 of the conditions - it could all be changed virtually overnight to suit.

Cameron was asked (4) times would he veto the Turkish application? On the question asked (4) times he would not answer! The point as far as I concerned is 1. I do not want it to happen for many reasons (none racial) 2. As far as it (might) be in the future - I still would not want to land the children of my childrens children with a cowardly (oh it does not matter - it is 30,40,50/ whatever years away), an imo cowardly decision that then dumps on future generations. As it stands the Turkish situation is deliberately vague.

As long as Jeremy Corbyn can keep Blair's puppets from taking control of Labour then Blair will not be able to influence the decision of Brexit. I should imagine that the Blair puppeteer is pulling a huge amount of strings and his phone calls to Europe will be never ending. His passion to be President can only be achieved if he uses Labour to put a spanner in the works. It would be nice to see the old Labour standards return and stay......................... Keep the red flag flying!

cameron like many of the tories are pro immigration because they mistakenly believe it boosts the government coffers and helps fuel house price inflation which keeps people spending as they think they are getting richer. Most Politicians have plenty enough money to ensure they can live in an area where it doesn't directly affect them so of course he was all for Turkey joining. Mass immigration keeps the UK Ponzi economy from collapsing which is why Bojo the clown and many others are running from the prospect of becoming the one that slays the golden goose

I don't think we will leave - I think the law makers will find EU law is like Japanese knotweed - and virtually impossible to unentangle

Never mentioned the UK did I. Once they get to France they'll be in the UK like a swarm of rats and the EU will force the UK into the Schengen area
