Another of your conspiracy theories Nidge? You do know that the number of ballot papers issued and the number of papers in the boxes are checked to make sure that they match. A box "disappearing" would be immediately flagged to the returning officer.

Because they have serial numbers on and the numbers have to match the ones handed out at the polling station. The number of ballot papers in the box has to match the number issued. You simply can't slip extra ballot papers in.

Assuming that the staff aren't in on it and the figures adjusted to suit

FFS. There are several levels of checking and even after the elections are over there is even more checking. Statistics of turnout in areas are checked and any changes from the norm are investigated. Have you ever been involved in the process?

Next time I am up for election I will invite you along to the count as one of my counting agents. Then you will be able to see for yourself just how difficult it would be to interfere with the ballot.

What if people had died but they were still on the voting system?

When British Citizens die the death has to be registered with the registrar for births, marriages and deaths. Once registered within a few weeks they should be taken off the electoral register otherwise they will still be liable for many bills.
