https://www.heraldscotland.com/politics/20661798.man-appointed-tayside-period-dignity-officer/

RECRUITERS in Tayside have defended their decision to appoint a man to be a "Period Dignity officer", saying he "was the strongest candidate."

According to the recruitment advert, the post aims to “coordinate and streamline the approach to Period Dignity across Perth & Kinross, Dundee and Angus.”

Martina Navratilova described it as “f*****g ridiculous.”

Writer Susan Dalgety said it was "institutionalised mansplaining."

the mind boggles at how ridiculous this is

Madness.

Can you imagine the fuss the likes of Sturgeon would have kicked up if the Tories had done something like this?

Suspect there's a lot more to come out about this.

Apparently one of the selection panel had already procured Mr Grant's services a couple of times previously, first as her personal trainer, then in a job at Dundee and Angus College.

The position was apparently only advertised online for five working days, and seems to have been hidden away where few prospective applicants would see it.

Sounds a bit, er, jobs for the boys  :-#

And a bit of a can of worms all round, by the looks of it:

This is a Courier tweet:

Dundee City Council leader John Alexander has spoken out about the decision – saying “we don’t have male jobs and female jobs”

But apparently the Equality Act allows for exclusions for positions like this. Assuming, of course, that it's agreed it's a post worth having in the first place :-s

EXCLUSIVE: Jason Grant leaves Tayside period dignity officer job as controversial role AXED over ‘threats’ and ‘abuse’

Jason Grant has left his post as Tayside’s period dignity officer, it has been announced.

Dundee & Angus College announced the role will not continue in a statement released on Tuesday.

The statement said the decision was taken after “threats and abuse” towards individuals in recent weeks.

Senior figures from Dundee & Angus College and Perth College, as well as councils in Dundee and Angus, had been locked in talks on how to handle the situation after a huge backlash to his appointment.

The row kicked off after news of Mr Grant’s role fighting period poverty spread to social media.

A host of famous names reacted angrily to a man being given the job, including tennis icon Martina Navratilova.

She branded the decision ‘f*****g ridiculous’, adding: “Have we ever tried to explain to men how to shave or how to take care of their prostate or whatever?!?

“This is absurd.”

A spokesperson for the Period Dignity Working Group, which consists of officials from each of the organisations, said: “The partners involved in the Period Dignity Working Group are committed to alleviating period poverty in Angus, Dundee and Perth and Kinross.

“It is regrettable that given the threats and abuse levelled at individuals in recent weeks, the Period Dignity Regional Lead Officer role will not continue.

“The working group is now looking closely at alternative ways to deliver these vital services in line with the legal requirements of the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021.

The statement added: “Meanwhile, support will continue to be provided to the colleagues and students who have been subjected to personal attack. Their safety and wellbeing is of paramount importance.

“The group’s joint work to provide free period products is rooted in kindness. We therefore ask that the same spirit of kindness is extended to those involved, and that their privacy is respected.”

The story was also picked up internationally, with the Washington Post, CNN and a host of other titles reporting the story.

In Scotland, many called on the project, funded jointly by Dundee and Angus College, Perth College, Angus Council and Dundee City Council, to think again.

I wonder why precisely they've effectively dumped the post? The above is all PR, comms, politics and blame-shifting. It's all about the optics - it's attracted such bad publicity that they've had to dump the post, then they're trying to say it's all the fault of other people.

A touch of gaslighting critics as well - you're supposed to feel bad about complaining about a 'period dignity officer' :-s

Good day to bury bad news, though...

I suspect someone with a bit of clout nudged them in that direction to try and limit the political fall out

Oh dear the wicked witch of the north doesn't like being ignored whilst the more important issues are sorted out and just like Rumpelstiltskin taught her she's stamping her feet

Nicola Sturgeon says lack of contact from Liz Truss 'absurd'

Well all this seems to have been swept under the carpet, but the latest controversy up here is about trans rights, etc, and the Scottish Parliament making it easier for someone with a penis to identify as a woman, and to that extent be able to access the women's lavvies, changing rooms etc :-s

Of course, that's a huge debate down south as well, but difference is that up here it's one of Nicola Sturgeon's pet projects, and the legislation is currently going through parliament.

And, of course, while rebellions and resignations are all part of the Westminster furniture, up here it's virtually unknown under the SNP, but last week a government minister actually resigned from Nicola's government over the gender recognition stuff, and several of her MSPs voted against her or abstained

But looks like it will all go ahead anyway, but one article from Dundee this week shows what it's all about. Expect more of this.

But what a time to be alive :-o

LEGAL FIRST Flasher caught with knife appears in court as both man AND woman on the SAME DAY in first case of its kind

A FLASHER who hurled pizza and a skateboard during a series of public order offences has broken new legal ground by appearing in court as both a man and a woman on the same day.

The 50-year-old was put on a Restriction of Liberty Order for three months as a result of offences committed as Alan and Alannah Morgan.

The accused, who has a long list of previous convictions, was addressed as Alannah Morgan when she appeared in the dock at Dundee Sheriff Court.

Morgan, Strathmore Lodge, Dundee, was sentenced in relation to four separate complaints - two of which she was designed as a man and two as a woman.

As Alannah, she admitted that on 24 February last year she acted in a threatening or abusive manner in the city's Happyhillock Road by striking a floor and screaming.

On the same complaint, she also admitted having a knife and shouting and swearing and referring to Andrew Rhynd in derogatory terms and uttering threats in April 2021.

On the second complaint as a woman, she admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner in Nethergate, Dundee, on 24 April.

Morgan admitted shouting incoherently and indiscriminately throwing slices of pizza around the street, and causing distress by urinating in public.

As a man, Morgan was charged with acting in a threatening or abusive manner and adopting an aggressive demeanour while making derogatory remarks to police in the city's Brewery Lane on 3 January this year.

Morgan admitted the offence, which took place when he was already subject to an anti-social behaviour order.

A handwritten amendment to court papers had been made in this case to score out Alan and replace it with Alannah.

In the final case, Alan Morgan admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner in Brewery Lane again on 23 March this year.

He admitted repeatedly throwing a skateboard around and kicking bins.

Morgan also admitted shouting, swearing and making offensive remarks to police in the back of a vehicle and at police HQ in Dundee.

Morgan also admitted striking a cell door, exposing his buttocks and repeatedly spitting within a cell and pulling down his trousers to expose his genitals.

Solicitor Jane Caird, defending, said her client had been considered unsuitable for community work by social workers due to a number of health issues.

However, she urged the court not to jail Morgan because she was extremely distressed by the prospect of being sentenced to a prison term.

She said: "The report confirms she is still doing well and engaging with various services including the community mental health nurse and the Salvation Army.

"Her key worker is assisting her in various areas of her life. She has been assessed as unsuitable for supervision. Her behaviour at times can be unpredictable.

"I'm asking the court to deal with it without sending my client to custody. She is extremely fearful of that and feels it would put her ten steps backwards."

Sheriff Alistair Carmichael placed Morgan on a tag for three months to cover all of the cases and ordered her to stay indoors between 7pm and 7am each day.

He said: "The combination of these offences puts this at the custodial threshold, so it would be worthy of a prison sentence, but I'm obliged to look at alternatives."

Not sure if that's an obscure legal term, or maybe some sort of word associated with the gender rights stuff :-s

Or maybe the word should be 'designated'. But if that was the intended term, then surely the subsequent two words 'as' wouldn't be necessary. You would be 'designated a man', not 'designated as a man'? :-k

Anyway, all that's maybe a bit pedantic, and it's not necessary to get the gist of what it's all about. That's if you can get your head round it all in the first place #-o

I find ignoring these ridiculous arguments over gender makes life so much simpler
