now that Biden has dropped out do you think that Harris will be the candidate or will there be others trying to get the democrat ticket?
I think Trump has gone from an almost certain winner to more 50/50 now.

My guess would be Harris, if only for continuity. A challenge or open convention would make the Democrats look disorganised with not a lot of time. Mark Kelly as running mate would be a good counter to Vance.

Although it's come about late, the timing's still been pretty clever. Trump and Vance are already nominated and have been completely wrong-footed. They'll have to rethink their campaign and aren't sure who the opposition is for now. The annoyed comments of the Trump-camp make me think Biden's probably called it right.

Harris is definitely the Democrat's front-runner now, but I wonder how many just behind the scenes think about it. Many want to run themselves, and/or in four years.

In my view it's all academic anyway as Trump will win no matter who he is up against.

Her record isn't great BUT I think quite a few Americans fancy the idea of a woman president and there are 4 months to go so she might just swing it her way.

I think her party have been working for a while on talking Biden out of running but with the assassination attempt on trump having failed ( I refuse to believe the "secret service" were that incompetent) I think they needed a plan B

Grandad, don't spoil Edder's conspiracy theory - he's hardly got it going!

JFK

that apart it just seems incredible they could be so incompetent but then there's evidence of vote rigging at the last presidential election and of course the shady tripartite committee of which Keir Starmer was once a member

there Chris is that a bit more to go on :D

Maybe the secret service were not that bothered about his security. I wouldn't be.

And what exactly did she do wrong?

If we say the person at the top always gets the chop, then surely the buck stops with the President.

Saw the debate after work. Most of the build-up predicted it could be make or break for Harris as a first-timer. All Trump needed was to stay on point and not make a hash of it… only he pretty much did.

Came across as defensive, uneasy and badly-prepared. Too easily sidetracked/flustered and ended up saying some silly stuff. Going into the press room afterwards to bluster about how well he’d done also wasn’t a good look.

Harris looked a lot more confident than I think many expected. Including Trump.

Still a long way to November.

Donald Trump has announced that he will not hold another debate against Kamala Harris before the November election.

The former president claimed on Truth Social on Thursday that Harris wanted a "rematch" because he "clearly" won on Tuesday in Philadelphia. He later repeated his claims at a campaign rally in Arizona.

Trump has nothing to gain from these debates.

Although he is as nutty as a fruit cake he is box office and will get as many people watching his Fox interviews as watch these debates.

Whereas no one is really interested in Harris. She is only standing because her current boss is away with the fairies.

Trump gained nothing from that debate for sure.

I can see Vance toiling against Walz in October too.
