I am very close to trafford & it is alleged that the man who has got his five plates, now wants the council to maintain the numbers control so he can sell them on. A nice easy £100k.

He would be wise to sell all of them and apply for another ten on top of the ten he's already applied for.

I didn't see many of you guys clearing the crowd at Old Trafford today. I wonder if these part time casual survey observers will be able to distinguish between a Manchester plate and a Trafford plate? That might be very interesting if he takes it upon himself to challenge Trafford's latest survey lol. I've no doubt he will be there videoing all the Manchester cabs clearing up your unmet demand.

Quote:
It is further alleged, that the applicant has to date, only produced one cab for test and that was a wreck and could not come close to passing the inspection.

What reg did he try to license? Theres no point in putting on a new cab if he intends to sell the plate.

Quote:
If this is true, the man is not some sort of de-reg champion, but a hypocritical con artist.

Did he ever put his name forward as being a champion of de reg? Trafford acted unlawfully so he did what none of the guys in Trafford were prepared to do and that is take the council to court. The guys in Trafford learn't a valuable lesson and so did the council but knowing Trafford council the lesson they learn't will probably be short lived.

Quote:
I hope the inland revenue, the council and the Vehicle inspectorate all investigate this mans affairs.

You sound jealous of this man? Is that because he didn't pay 35 grand for a plate? Or the fact he used the law to get what he was rightfully entitled to?

I can assure you i am not jealous of this man. I do not like people who want to grab a £100k worth of plate and then say "No More"

There must surely be, many long standing, hard working drivers that should have been issued way ahead of this opportunist.

It would be a fitting tribute if the council de-limit completely and make it a hollow victory.

The problem with that is, that many family men have borrowed large amounts of money to fund what they thought of as a secure future, would go to the wall.

Also I do not like councils who act unlawfully, but should their incompetence ruin peoples lives?

Finally, I believe Trafford has an age limit, so I don't know how old the cab he took for test was, but it would have to comply with their age policy.

Well I can live with that.

It could be said that those councils acting unlawfully have been ruining many non plateholders lives for years.

Get rid of section 16 and that will no longer be an option.

Well I can assure you that Trafford have some pretty old cabs running around the streets of Trafford and seeing as you suggested you are very close to Trafford I assume you are aware of that?

If you are not jealous of this man I can't see what all the fuss is about? He had a right to apply for a license or in this cases licenses didn't he?

You come across as if you want the council to restrict people getting licenses or even applying? Is this because it is much easier to ply for hire in a restricted environment insulated from the competiton that most every other authority encounters?

When I see the maladministration of councils who bend the law to deny decent people the chance of getting a license and the amount of money it costs applicants to obtain justice, then I'm afraid I don't have much sympathy for councils and many of the people they try to insulate.

You know the score and you should know the law, if you haven't learnt anything since 2004 then you better take this onboard now. The restricted quantity control side of the trade is dying and very soon all that will be left is a rotting corpse. The sooner you realise that the sooner you can put alternative quality control measures in place.

From what I have seen so far the vested interests who run the trade in many restricted authorities, haven't yet woken up. They are failing the restricted taxi trade by not informing them of what is likely to happen, now that sounds a lot like Trafford doesn't it?

Things that cannot yet be proved, can only be "alleged" as it is only hearsay.

Only time will tell. Wouldn't want a libel suit.

P.S. There are even more "allegations" regarding the applicant, all speculation of course.

Let's face it, there's going to be plently of gossip going around regarding this matter, and some of it is bound to be pure garbage, knowing the trade.

But it's maybe a bit dodgy proffering a string of 'allegations' and assuming that this would automatically protect the allegor from a libel suit - after all, there's such a thing as malicious falsehood.

For example, I don't think I could just post on here that Mr X is allegedly a paedophile, Mr Y allegedly deals drugs from his cab or Mr Z allegedly raped one of his passengers and expect to get away with it purely by inserting the word allegedly.

How strange.

Last year Trafford Council spent un-told thousands of pound telling a court that there was no sig un-met demand, only for the court to tell them their proof was flawed.

How pleasing it is to have it confirmed that the courts were right and Trafford were wrong, yet again, as a Halcrow SUD survey has just found that there is/was SUD and the council need to increase it's taxi numbers by over 15% just to stay still.

And some unions say councils know best.

I've not read it but it is no surprise that Halcrow found SUD in Trafford. After all, Sundays is their rest day.

Every time there's a football match at Old Trafford the majority of cabs that pick up from there are pirating Manchester cabs. Manchester Cabbies that pirate in Trafford can't really critices private hire drivers for doing the same thing in Manchester, or can they?

I've got a feeling in my water that it's going to be put up on their site soon.

Be interesting to see how Halcrow calculate latent demand, because a third of the extra plates are being issued on the basis of it.

I understand the survey report recommends 18 additional licenses. This proves beyond all reasonable doubt that Trafford were all along stitching up license applicants by refusing them a license for no other reason than to maintain a policy of restriction, regardless of demand?

knowing Trafford's track record they will no doubt try and come up with a criteria for issuing these licenses that exclude many people who are not involved in the trafford Taxi trade. Tameside did the same thing when they recently issued five licenses.

I can't wait to see one of these potentially unlawful criteria challenged in a court of law.

I'm reliably informed that Trafford have decided to issue 33 new taxi plates now and 10 more each October until there's no more applications. Could anyone up there please confirm this?

But if this is the case, then I wonder how many of those new plate-holders will be sending a case of booze to the chap who has done all the work locally to make sure they got their plates?

Methinks f*** all is the answer. [-(

For those of us that like nothing better than to sit down with a nice glass of wine and a SUD survey to read, well I can supply the latest Trafford survey, but will leave the wine bit for you.

Funny, but I've got a SUD report that reads just the same as this one, with just the names and locations changed. And trafford may issue more plates, but there doesn't seem to be much demand for them in the driver survey. Funny that, we were led to believe there would be a stampede.
