Has anyone ever come up with a definition of what they mean by significant? :?

I have, but I wonder if there is another one not as daft as the one used in a court case down here, many moons ago.

Just over the border form us in Sutton In Ashfield they are capping plates as from the 1/4/04. This is due to the large number of plates being handed back in to the council, lack of rank spaces etc etc.

What council might that be?

Sussex.

that case provides the word significant.

correct me if I am wrong

you can have the entire population of Brighton quing at a taxi rank at 3am, however that would not be significant unmet demand beccause it would be unreasonable to expect a taxi driver to work at that hour.

the mind boggles

Yes a broad approach must be taken. :(

However as for the definition of what is deemed to be 'significant'.

A court down here about 15 years ago accepted the meaning to be, 'that which is deemed not to be in-significant'.

Would I be right in thinking that sutton is covered by the licensing Authority of Ashfield?

If that is the case would I be right in saying that Ashfield is deregulated?

Would I be right in saying that ashfield has never said they are going to re regulate H/C licences?

Would I be right in saying that Ashfield have recently altered the H/C licensing conditions to only licence Wheelchair accessible vehicles up to 12 month old, in the future?

Or do I have this completely wrong?

Best wishes.

Oh silly me didn't I state that??? I do apologise, mind you it keeps you solicitors on your toes.

They are stopping plating saloons as of 1/4/04. The WAV issue has been in for the last 10 years as I know of so nothing new there, the WAVS went down hill because of the lack of work due to the Council opening the doors to anything, the WAV's went down to 4 because of a 100+ saloons. You have a town here with no night clubs, 4 pubs, no train station, 1 supermarket and a small bus station. Loads of work there in the day, the total daily take is around £25-£30, not bad for a days work is it?

You were very explicit in what you said Nigel and on reading your post some people may have got the impression that Sutton in Ashfield was the licencing Authority, when in fact the licensing Authority is Ashfield. Therefore I assume you meant "Ashfield" are capping numbers, for the specific reasons you give. I wonder why you mentioned Sutton, when Sutton comes under the control of Ashfield?

Now to some of us your comments may seem a little bizzare, considering Ashfield has had no limit on numbers for a very long time. Why would they wish to cap numbers now? Especially for the reasons you give.

When I read the comments, I thought, oh "its only Nigel dreaming again".
Anyway, I thought It would be prudent to get facts, seeing as how you like to colour them a little.

Ashfield licensing department say they have not capped numbers, they say the policy hasn't changed the only thing that has changed is that new aplicants for a licence will have to put on a vehicle that is no older than 12 months, it has to be a wheelchair accesssible vehicle.

The licensing officer said, "the vehicle can be any vehicle type that has been sanctioned by the council and that includes saloon cars".

He also went on to say that as of yesterday they had now passed the Fiat Doblo and Peugeut taxi.

So thats the position. Does the above resemble what you posted?

Best wishes

JD

John, Ashfield Council covers Sutton, Kirkby and Hucknall. The WAV situation got out of control when I worked up there people were putting allsorts on then, the Council changed their policy allowing any vehicle on under 1 year old, drivers stopped putting WAV's on because they could get a better deal on a saloon, Wendy Cantrell the licensing officer up there said, the Council have made a vary grave decision regarding plate issues, she has now left the Council to pursue a career as a solicitor, "how ironic". Your a bit late on the Peugeot thing john they have been on for the last couple of years, we have some working in Mansfield yet plated in Ashfield through lack of work in Ashfield. They used to have a policy of bring it up and we'll plate it for you no matter what. Any way got to shoot work needs to be done, people need taking home wish I could sit at home all day like you lot.

Opinion, is a view and interpretation of facts, not a view of fiction.
