I was one of the drivers in Dundee that was calling for deregulation i thought it would get rid of plate hiring and sort out the problem with private hire .I could not have more wrong the situation in Dundee is out of control there is still plate hiring and the ph problem has got worse.I really think that anyone considering supporting deregulation to take a look at the situation in Dundee. Also the trade is splintered and as a result the council are shown a total disregard to what the trade are saying.

The problem is the two tier system that was brought in, same as we have here.
Driver's pay to hire a saloon or go PH, to avoid the costs of buying and running a WAV.
This has left the saloon plates with a value. That value is the difference in buying and running a saloon, against the same costs for a WAV.
It's really a restricted trade within an unrestricted one.
Until the council apply the same criteria to each taxi licence, this will continue to be a problem.

Gusmac the price of some saloon cars are as expensive as WAV's I know of a cab driver in Dundee who's average price of his saloon is 21k & by the way Dundee has a 7 tier system
1. Saloon
2. Saloon Corporate
3. Wheelchair low-volume
4. Wheelchair low-volume Corporate
5. EC Whole Vehicle Type Approved
6. EC Whole Vehicle Type Approved Corporate
7. and last but not least PH

Oh my goodness me we have been rumbled. ](*,)

If the likes of you didn't keep on restarting old threads on here this section would be the quietest on the site, in fact it has a fraction of TDO's posts.

Most on here are quite happy to leave their limit/delimit views as they are, and post limit/delimit articles from various councils as and when they happen.

If anything it's the likes of you that keep banging on about it, the likes of me are quite happy to let councils continue the delimit crusade all by themselves. :D

Bollo#ks Sussex. You bang on about it at every opportunity

Something is really not right here on this site with some of the replies I'm reading,

The thing that is not right is you.

You can't quite work out why anyone would champion those in the trade not fortunate to have £40/50/70,000 in their back pockets.

The likes of you are more than happy to keep sucking the blood out of them.

Very few people have £40+k in their back pockets, they take out a loan and invest in a business. You could do it also, but you choose not too. So carry on renting and bleating and moaning and wanting something for nothing

Well if he is and he is in a de-reg area; I would love it if they suddenly closed the doors and he was in posession of a plate worth £20K+ I would like to be able to hear him screaming for de-regulation. Somehow I imagine I would have to have the ears of a sh#thouse rat and then some
