Call it what ever figure you like into the tens of thousands bracket, then tell us how this equates into the sale price of a public licence.

How many qualified taxi drivers denied a licence, and how many members of the public denied a service at a competitive cost?

However you want to carve this little fantasy up at the end of the day it’s the qualified taxi driver and the general public who pay.

You might be a protected species at this moment but you will be joining the ranks of the Dodo in a short while.

Can’t wait

I don't think the comparison is correct, oxford is small, birmingham is massive, and even after dereg they have had and still have enormous problems with illegal ph and out of town cabs.

Maybe you will think these comparisons are correct?

You probably know that Oxford has a population of around 134,248 so lets compare Oxford to the other authorities on your doorstep.

Vale of white horse. 115627
Cherwell. 131785
South Oxon. 128188
North Oxon. 95650

No doubt they sound familiar but the difference between these district councils in Oxfordshire and yours is the simple fact that their Taxi proprietors are not a protected species. I guess this throws the ball back into your court because you still haven't given an adequate response as to why you think you should be protected and the rest of the licensing authorities in Oxfordshire should not?

You claim you are not a protected species, how you reached that conclusion is beyond me. I would say the four councils I mentioned fit into the category of unprotected species while your council by virtue of having a restricted policy puts you in the category of a protected species. Is that not correct?

as usual you are spot on with the statistics, however the councils you mention are not centralised i.e. south oxfordshire is spread out, as is west oxfordshire, basically you can drive 15 to 20 miles and still be in west oxfordshire, its rural, as is the south, as is cherwell. oxford is central you can drive across it in 15 minutes.

and anyway with these other councils its anything goes, so you could put a saloon on with them, then basically the disabled people are discriminated against.

we are not protected or endangered, if tomorrow the council decided it was in the public interest to go free for all then so be it.

how many licences did they issue in High Wycombe after dereg, three wasn't it? when the council realised that they might have to give out licenses like confetti, and then the cousins cousin wanted one, the put a stop to it, came out with the xcuse about rank space......

as for the stalkers well to be honest its upto the customers if they want to get in a unlicensed car, but eventually they all get caught, and if the customers want to pay rip off ph prices then they are bigger idiots arent they?

Alan Woodward Secretary of the Oxford Taxi association said there is a fair amount of street hailing, that wouldn't surprise me in the least but who do you believe Mr 187 UMS or Mr Allan Woodward?

Rank space is the reason for not issuing any plates. This was brought up several weeks ago in another thread and the reason then is the same as it is now? The district council is waiting on the County Council to supply the rank space, as they are the ones who deal with highways. You will be pleased to know that several locations have been earmarked for additional Taxi ranks.
