Bloodnock, I must have been in the same time warp as you.
Stinky, we are not restricted but we wish we where in zone 2, 125 cabs and climbing, and we only pay £25 deposit for ours.

BTW Blood why are you only PH when there is little difference in insurance costs and all you require is a meter, your car has been through the same test :?: :?:

Wake up guys, Mr Stinky was implying that there are plate barons based in your manor, but fleecing the York trade from there.

The reason being is ive no where to hack in zone one close to home, secondly ive some pretty good customers that seem to stick with me through thick and thin...therefore being Hackneyed (although never say never) wouldnt suit me...besides....If Iever need a Taxi i can visit Kelso where there is approx 10 cabs to every Punter, Drivers all queued up, waiting patiently, gently puffing away on their Woodbines...if I wanted to make serious money id Open a tobacconists in Kelsae Square.

that a fair answer Skippy?

Whats the matter with Duns square Greenlaw and Churnside and all the small villages in between, you could still charge your regulars the same price, as the tariff sheet is the maximum that can be charged your free to charge anything under that.
There must have been times when you have been asked by a punter to take them, with out a phone call, being hack licenced does not mean you have to stop what your doing now it means you have the best of both worlds.
BTW did you once have a fiesta as a PH??????? and what have you now

What Stinky Pete means, is that a man originally from York who used to drive hackneys here bought four plates, he rents them out and then he retired and moved to the Scottish borders to live, the other guy was an insurance broker who bought four plates and then retired to Spain The first guy charges £180 per week rent per plate, the second guy charges £200 a week, this is the bit that peed off the council, and nothing at all to do with station taxis.

well yes thats right, but now go to the issue of new plates

i am not sure whats happening as the Council had to go back to the drawing board re issue of 15 new plates, CRB checks and all that, think it is 24 June

have heard that a plate was to be issued to the chap who was made famous in the Warriner v York council court case many years ago

Derrick is now coming up to 80 years old, he cannot pass a medical to drive, but dont know if that issue of plate is to take place

some plates may/are going to people who already own plates and rent them out

the taxi plate management company Tro**ers Independant Taxi Plate trading Company will no doubt stand at the council door as the new owners come out of that office with a plate, offer them 10 grand for the plate, then offer to put a WA on for them so they can pay him rent, to which the council have said they can't stop people selling and dealing

now here is a good way to sneak up the taxi issue list, as heard that one had not been on the list as long as most people

get loads of people to write in to the council, praising how good the driver is, one of the best taxi driver they have ever seen, he's just so good at his job and deserves a plate etc etc

its works

Stinky Pete with respect needs to start getting his facts right. Who was it that put a price on plates, was it the council...no, was it the government...no. The trade in York and elsewhere put a price on plates. Was it entrepaneurs or greedy taxi drivers. The trade caused the problem and nobody else. Greedy plate holders saw an opportunity to make money and took advantage. We all know that the rental of plates in certain cases is extortionate and morally wrong. If you complain to your local MP about the whole business of buying/selling/renting plates they'd turn round and say its got nothing to do with the government. Was it not the government that advised each local authority to de-regulate. City of York Council have not de-regulated. As the trade caused the problem, its they and only they that can solve it, unless of course City of York Council do what Government has advised.
I don't know what Stinky Pete is going on about the council going back to the drawing board over the extra plates and CRB checks. It s a done deal. Get your facts right, as usual a load of hot air and wrong info. CRB checks are being done and will continue to do so.

Bet that doesn't happen in 73% of councils.
