In Sefton we have 271 hackney.... 190 wheelchair accessible vehicles and 81 saloon vehicles.... all my cabs are wheelchair accessible... so on face value the Act should not affect me.... But then it does say ..... (a council will not be able to refuse any one a licence that presents a wheelchair accessible ).... wheelchair accessible vehicle no age mentioned..... any one ....... is that every Tom Dick and Harry... not in the trade... what about private hire companies that advertise themselves as taxi companies.... and will they have to comply or not.... to many unanswered questions.... as yet.....

I'd be inclined to agree somewhat with what you said if I didn't have a regular passenger that has to get into a WAV on his hands and knees and that's why he is prepared to wait for a PH to come and get him. WAV's like saloons are not perfect for every customer

Why can't that fella get a WAV with a ramp he can walk up? :?

Naaah so p****d he would have fell off that!!

You kinda got it right he does have a little drink. He's not steady on his feet, likes to be independant while he still can so doesn't like being helped up the ramp. He would prefer to sit in the vehicle bum first, simple as that

Bloody thought so!!

You get the old dears here saying "oooh I can't get in that big one it's too high" even though there is a step to help them in, so get in the saloon behind..... funny thing is though when its bloody p*****g down and nothing else available, suddenly it's "Oh I suppose I can get in if I have to" When it's a specially cantankerous old cow (ultra short journey) just reply that it was too high last time dear, can't have you doing yourself any mischief now can we, you'll be suing me next!! Sorry saloon along in a few minutes!!

That wouldn't make any difference here either as the WAV's HC make up nearly a 1/3 of our fleet of cars already. The PH companies will just take on WAV's for their circuit to ressolve that problem

maybe so.... But what if you have a company that advertisers that it does 6 million jobs a-year-..... 1500 cars and has not one wheelchair accessible vehicle .

Personally I think a company that size should have WAV's. I just commented that here it wouldn't make any difference what happens with this Bill as most scenarios are already covered here apart from a mixed fleet of HC's and I can't see that happening can you

You're quite right.... but we have had to listen to all the moans and groans coming from your side of the river for quite some time.... I have a strong feeling the moans and groans will be coming from all over the country in future.... as different licensing officers interpreted the new Act to suit themselves

I wonder how long it would be before some bright spark takes their local council to court claiming that they have a all WAF fleet.... which is discriminating against the disabled and saloon vehicles should be allowed...

Dundee has no age restrictions but the older the car is the more tests it has to have in the year.

That policy does have its merits.

One operator in Dundee has got two Mercedes Saloon's both M Reg..now ! if CC is indeed correct in saying M is 15yr old, i find it very UNEQUAL that this guy can rotate these vehicles on a 4 monthly basis for testing and the WAV owners are having to spend a minimum of £18.000 !

Think it's time to go down the City Chambers, drop the trousers and take it up the a$$ again eh ???

EQUALITY....You're having a laff........... =;

Then IMO that firm is in breach of the 1995 DDA, as amended in 2005.

In England that would probably be illegal at the second vehicle being licensed would have to comply with the rules currently set for new licenses?

I'm not particularly happy with the rules we have in Gods Country, but they seem slightly (well a whole lot) fairer than yours.

Saloon Cars Maximum age on first license = 3 years old.

Saloon Cars Advisory Age limit = 5 years old.

Wheelchair accessible vehicle Maximum age on first license = 3 years old

Wheelchair accessible vehicle Advisory Age limit = 10 years old

Saloon cars currently licensed can always be saloon HC's, but must conform with the age limits upon replacement.

CC

I see there's no update for today's reading. Do they work back-shift at the big house?
