If there are no volunteers then the council will take it out of their hands... but then a gain it looks like the DDA Act will probably do the same. only a larger version.

Talking about that I'm interested in the DfT view that mixed fleets might not be legal. :-k

It wouldn't surprise me, if the Dft do go the way of WAV only, in a few years time we'll be having consultations regarding ambulantly disabled persons

It appears that Eastbourne has finally delimited, and new plates must adhere to certain strict regulation.

The way an LO put it to me some years ago was that the LA would be able to retain a mixed fleet if it so wished to, as we have 83 of them already I would like to think we won't need anymore in future, especially as what started out as 5 seater licences have become 8 seater ones, almost doubling the original 4 seat fleet as an 8 seater takes two saloon jobs in one go in effect.

I think my issue is with making some drivers pay up to £35,000, and others only up to £15,000.

Really can't see that standing up in court, and maybe that's what the DfT were on about.

Two sides to look at here Mark, while I'd agree if we were at starting point A, but we aren't, and ppl like me spent a shed to avoid the 20k+ vehicles, others spent the money knowingly as a way on to the rank, where I am will not support 240 WAV's, so as you can assume I'm hoping that the fact we already have a fleet of WAV's that outstrips the demands of the disabled we will continue a mixed fleet.

I don't think the likes of OFT and the DfT really take much account of how any situation got to be as is it.

I'm pretty sure they will see if an issue is legal, and what the future holds.

That said I'm 70% sure the DfT will go down the 100% WAV route, and only rural areas will escape that.
