I can have a free plate now but it cost me £35,000 to put a cab on. I'll stick to the Skoda Superbs thank you very much. £12,000 and they do the same job. People should try it. There will be free plates if the OFT get their way but, there will be a big clause like in Leicester, yes sir you can have a free plate but you must buy a TX2 or a Metrocab.

I think that most if not all of the 15,000 ( :D :D :D :D ) new plates, will have to be WAVs.

Not sure they will have to be TX's or Metro's after what the OFT report said about the Metropolitan Condition of Fitness.

So now Sussex Man is telling us that he knows how many new plates will be issued.

So know Sussex Man is telling us that not all of the new plates will be in accordance with the MCoF.

Actually Sussex Man is telling us what he guesses will be the number of new plates.

Actually Sussex Man is telling us that new plates will be for WAV's but not for the traditional "purpose builts".

Maybe Sussex Mans post should have been included in the "Lies Lies and more Lies" thread as essencially this is exactly what he is doing here.

The OFT report concludes EXACTLY the same as the T&G policy when it comes to vehicles and that is that ALL licensed vehicles must be M1 Full Body European Specification. Now maybe we could have a list of ALL of the vehicles with such a standard from the wisest man in the trade as the list is longer than LTI and Metrocab models.

I thought it was the TGWU that wanted the MCoF retained in London, Mick, apparently because the T&G has members employed by LTI.

So what you're saying is that there are essentially three different T&G policies, depending on what happens to suit local and/or national requirements.

- saloon cars
- M1
- MCoF

I think that's what's called policy on the hoof, or something like that!

On the point generally though, it does seem probable that de-limitation in saloon areas will be on the basis of WAVs, which will be discriminatory and will retain the plate premiums that the OFT wanted to get rid of, another point not in the report, although it was of course going on long before the OFT study started.

Just one question to you Mr Dusty. How would you know that the posting was by Scanner. Not that this bothers me its just that I have stopped all cookies on my new pc.

Err, there are so many posts under guests that if it's worth commenting on (usually it isn't) then I just have to take a guess, but it's usually fairly obvious who it is - I assumed you'd just forgotten to log on.

Wot, you mean like they nearly implemented in Sevenoaks a year ago?

Getting a bit twisted here, are we not? :?

I can't tell and guess at the same time. :?

The 15,000 came from the OFT report, the bad vibes of the Met COF came from the OFT report.

You should give it a read one day.

Well, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but in Sevenoaks a £5 flag after 11pm was more or less done and dusted from 1/1/2003, even to the extent of it being shown on the fare card on the council's website.

But some in the trade there kicked up a stink and the council pushed it back to £4.50 - that's a £3 flag normally and an extra £1.50 after 11pm.

Amazing isn't it. What is it with this trade. All of a sudden you get a council prepared to take a sensible step and one or two idiots press the self destruct button.

It seems the attitude is 'if I starve myself I will starve all the other buggers as well'.

The thing is you have got to get it right, you can have £50 a mile, but if no-one gets in your car, your f***ed.

You could have £1 a mile, you would then have them queuing up to get in, but still not earn.

Getting the balance right is a nightmare, although us PH boys don't have that problem.

We are too busy drug running. :( :( :( :(

I'm not sure I really care what another taxi site is doing.

Unless it is to praise or relay some useful info, could we please leave the other sites, to the other sites.

Alex
