Not sure about the "ex cartel operating opportunist" I have never operated a Cartel and the plates I never owned because they are public property.

should we then do the same with say the buses, tesco or tell the bloke who wants to open another shop he cant as there is a limit on how many shops we can have but if you pay someone a load os dosh you can then open another shop.

i just dont get how you can buy a plate when you cant the who buisness idea has come from the way plates are sold.
its all done through the back door as you cant sell a plate but you can sell a buisness and CEC turn a blind eye as it says on the plate they are still the property of CEC.

i bet every buisness would love limits on other people starting up but they work in a free market.

Yes this was a great concept in the nineties when there was no real competition. Enter the Ph a competitor who works on the free market principle “supply and demand”. Then all you need to do is not to expand your own hack fleet and give away any potential increase in the market to your competitor “no unmet demand” remember.

ComCab appears on the seen to mop up the competition looking to get the hacks and the Ph working in the same fleet. Trots off to the Airport and buys Onward Travel. City and Central go under simply because they cannot compete.

Add in a lot of cheap immigrant labour and bingo you have it one, “The end of the Hack fleet as wee know it”

The bubble bursts, earnings drop plate premiums fall, existing drivers leave the trade only to be replaced by cheap immigrant labour.
