As a staion passless brighton hack I do not really see what the fuss is about having a staion pass.

Well of course...because you are you and I am me. Its actually a lot of fuss trying to get in and out of the station. Plus it is a nightmare if you get radio job. When it is quiet the station is packed with cabs. You dont stand a chance of getting out if you are in the middle.

In fact I can actually understand a limited access policy on the grounds of over crowding. Sometimes all the cabs trying to get into the staion to queue up on the already over crowded rank over spill beyond the traffic lights. There is a seperate section to drop off customers and then exit immediately but this becomes inexcessible.

Perhaps a permit should be issued on a rota basis of say 5 years then reissued to the next on the list who is interested.

I tell you what Mr Cgull, if I get my HC plate, then I will fight like daddy'o to get you your station pass.

Is it a deal?

I dont think it will matter now because i spoke to the bloke at the trains head office again and he said the rank was going to be moved out the back next year and every Brighton taxi will be able to have a permit.
Big smiles for Cgull. :D :D :D :D
So no help from me for your plate. :(

Will they still issue permits Mr Cgull or will every Brighton H/C have free and open access to the new rank ?

Its still very hush hush but it will be free and opoen to all brighton taxis.
But you will still need a permit so it will not be free and open. :? :? :?
Does that make sense?

Wouldn't it be nice if a taxi driver could pull onto a rank, pick up and go, without having to wet someone's beak?

ranks on private land need maintaining hense the passes.

they are good for the trade as they justify a bit more tarriff and as ph are based on taxis well keeps the takings up.

My advice, based on my knowledge gained through working in a deregulted area, is that in areas where H/C numbers rise more than 200% the opyion to work independantly of an office is much less viable with every new plate issued.
We have therefore seen an increase in driver expenditure as the relevant fees demanded from operators must be paid as well as the increased running costs associated with the WAV's, the ONLY vehicle type which is being offered free entry to the trade.
