I don't think that the Transport Act amendment has put a stop to the 'undesriable' effects outlined in the Circular. Presumably this culminated in the RRA proposal a couple of years ago - the message would appear to be that if the LAs won't do it themselves then perhaps the Govt should consider doing it for them.

Sorry if my use of the word 'recommend' 'sexed things up' a bit John, I recall wondering if this word was appropriate, but it's not far off methinks.

I was going to respond to your posts abou the GATS and the EU law made a few weeks ago, but I will do that later tonight, so I'm not always so quick!!

Dusty :?

Thats excellent because both those areas potentialy have a greater bearing on current licensing than section 16 of the transport act. The developement of both the EU competition laws and Gats will evolve in years to come. At the moment I believe Gats is not as big a threat as EU law but if you study the reaction by some councils to how they perceive Gats effecting their ability to control licencing it would appear that it is a very real threat to their powers of regulation.

I'm off out now to earn a few bob.......have a nice evening and I hope its not too exacting.

Best wishes

Joh Davies

Doesn't it amaze you sometimes Tom (it does me), just how knowledgeable, educated and intelligent some of these taxi drivers are?

Absolutely Andy.

Makes you wonder what they might have achieved in a more honourable profession. Licensing Officer for example.

Even something challenging like Private Hire Driver.

Tom, when I used the word "Taxi" drivers, I was using the word colloquially, thus of course including Private Hire drivers in my statement.

Do you reckon Dusty is a Licensing Officer then?

When I gave up particle beam physics to become a cabby, I had nearly discovered a safe form of nuclear fission, and only became a cabby because I thought that I could make a fortune by converting an FX4 to run on waste nuclear fuel rods. I was going to use Tritium injection triple overhead cam on spent uranium rather than common or garden derv, with intercooled strontium 90 fuel-cell depleted hydrogen recovery, and Volvo's aftercooling system to get rid of the high rad content cooling water as it kept springing a leak in the radiator.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get a Hackney plate on it, as the turning circle of my patent warp-drive 4-wheel Kort Nozzle steering, was 26 feet.

Now, If I had known Dusty Bin then, he would have told me that:according to Section 6, sub para bii, of article seven of the Washington Treaty on Private Hire and Taxi Construction and as ammended in the 1976 act, sub para B seven, I could not use a nuclear power unit in a Hackney Carriage. And I would have saved twenty years of development.

Andy,
Somebody quite soon will ask if you are on waccy baccy. That thing about losing twenty years of development struck a chord. I lost that amount and although I am 67 I only look 47.

No Ged, never needed that sort of stuff, as I am already insane.

Remember the old saying:

You don't have to be insane to be a cabby, but it helps.

Well I've been everything from a senior council executive to the local bin man, according to forum contributors :)

In fact that was where the name came from, I started posting a couple of years ago, and one poster, who shall remain nameless, clearly didn't like what I had to say, and asked why they should take me seriously' as I could be the 'local bin man'.

Cue my email address and 'Dusty Bin'!

Almost, Captain.

But I've got a different version, it's especially for scanner, angel and yorkie.

Don't forget Dusty, you were also called a solicitor.

Frankly, it doesn't matter who/what you are, but I welcome the intelligence of some of your posts. They are both educational, and well sourced even when I don't agree with them. Perhaps thats why we are always trying to put you in a pigeon hole. The word is intigued.
