There are approximately 25k in London alone, I would put a conservative estimate at around 120k

Anyway back to my original question. In english please, no jockspeak :D
You have Northern Ireland and southern Ireland ,so your question should be phrased differently...... ask Gusmac for the answers...

Ok for the purpose of this question. The Ireland I am talking about is the Ireland to which the post refers

It refers to the Republic of Ireland which, for the benefit of those who keep pointing to this example, is not a part of the UK.
Most of them are, I believe, based in Dublin.

It's strange to think that in England and Wales the majority of LAs have delimited, yet the plate barons' best argument against delimiting is this unholy foreign feckup.

I've yet to hear anyone on here call for this type of mad free-for-all, but it does stop T and the others having to produce a reasonable argument which doesn't reek of greed and self interest.

Thank you. I am of course aware that the Republic of Ireland is not part of the Uk. My question was just to establish whether this was just a problem for Dublin cos that's where the 30,000 taxis were or whether it was a problem for the country as a whole.

With regard to the plate baron issue it has been said by me before that I don't think plates should be sold and that a plate should be given out on the basis that one person only needs one plate. Having said that I can understand how so called plate barons exist. Whilst you have people who can't get finance, don't want the committment of finance or the committment of a permanant taxi job there is always going to be the need for plated vehicles for hire. This is no different in the PH side of things. In PH plates are not regulated but you still have people hiring vehicles that are already plated and I might add this is not cheap. :D

Ah but at least the choice is there, should they want it.
T and his baron friends don't want HC drivers to have this choice...........

It's a tough call as I said I don't think plates should be sold but being in an area that is already de-reg I can tell you it's not a good thing. There has to be some kind of control and quality isn't it, but, should be part of it.
