A FRIEND HAS TOLD ME IT IS STILL RESTRICTED,BUT IT DOES NOT FEATURE ON THE STILL RESTRICTED LIST As of November 2004 the DFT stats update stated Norwich is not restricted. Rupert Cope of the DfT Taxi and Private hire division and I went through my list comprehensively and compared it with his own list. His data was compiled up to and including November 2004. However, even though there are a few minor mistakes in the DFT data I do not believe Norwich is one. How sure are you that your friend is correct? Does he drive a hackney carriage in Norwich? The stats for Norwich are as follows. As Of November 2004, Norwich was not restricted. 209 H/C all wav. 328 P/H H/C Vehicle life 10 years. H/C first license no more than 5 years I shall re-confirm their status but I am confident they are not restricted. Best wishes JD |

A FRIEND HAS TOLD ME IT IS STILL RESTRICTED,BUT IT DOES NOT FEATURE ON THE STILL RESTRICTED LIST As I previously suggested Norwich does not have a limit on numbers. I am sorry to say that you're friend is incorrect, which leads me to suggest he may not be part of the Norwich hackney carriage trade. Whereas all enquiries are welcome with regard to the authenticity of a council's policy, It may help in future if suggestions of this nature were presented with the bone fide details of the person from whom the suggested discrepancy came. Best wishes JD |

From my point of view I'm quite happy he was wrong.

Sorry like but there are restrictions, and these restrictions exclude as many as plate premiums. The HC WAV must be no older than 5 years old when first licensed. So what happens if you can't afford one? The HC WAV lasts no more that 10 years. So what happens if you can't afford to replace your vehicle as you have spent so much money keeping the vehicle in a safe and roadworthy condition. Do you go out of business? Tell you what like, sounds like more restrictions to what we had before derestriction. And you think that is fair, as I said many times before its only fair to you. B. Lucky |

Lucky GA with all due respect, its possibly the existing trade that asked for these regulations knowing what unlimited dereg would bring. regards Captain cab |
