You could be spot on, and your council may wish to carry on discriminating against some, whilst spending tens of thousands on surveys.

However if your manor and your country are happy living in the 1900s, then it doesn't surprise me one jot, that so many of your folk are down here.

council surveys are paid for by taxi drivers, not the council. they merely collect the license money and distribute it on our behalf

And the cost of the sub-committee meetings, full council meetings, consultation documents, legal advice, legal appeals etc etc.

Does that grow on trees?

Not according to footnote 2 in Annexe D of the OFT report. It says that in a minority of areas, including Worcester, the cost is borne by the taxpayer, which is nice of them.

Quite right too, if councils wish to have stupid rules and regulations, then they should bloody well pay for them.

If they don't want surveys, the answer is very simple, GET RID OF THE RESTRICTIONS.

Could be, but surely the council can spend their money how they see fit.

My council doesn't charge the trade when they put up signs pointing out where the taxi ranks are.

But don't the rules say that the licensing dept can't make a profit, but it's a little bit grey about making a loss.

Also council meetings involving the HC/PH trade come out of general funds.

In an area near me, the council has put up some supa dupa taxi shelters, with a nice Victorian theme.

Can you imagine the cab trade paying for that?

how do you know? you are getting just like sussex making such sweeping statements, look, all licence fees go into a fund, and expenses are paid out,

now sussex goes on about meeting fees. i bet hes wrong does anyone on here look at the books top see? no just bloody guessing.
