People don't hire a taxi just because there are 10 on the rank instead of 6.
Or maybe they do in Carlisle?

Thats correct.

So if a driver has to earn say £50 per day, which will obviously keep him in the grandeur he has become accustomed, and after working 12 hours he has say £35 on his meter. Are you telling him he has to go home now, because he's being unfair on the other cabbies?

Or should he carry on and work another couple of hours to make up the shortfall?

No, I would hope they might see the big picture and figure out the stupidity of it for themselves.
Some hopes of that when the likes of you can't see it.
It would be better if everyone recognised there is less work and accepted that working more hours only eats into the next guy's income.
He in turn works more hours and eats into yours. A vicious cycle where everyone ends up working more and making less.

You haven't answered my question BTW:

Why don't you explain how everyone working extra hours will put extra bums on seats?

Then you also surprise me, although I never imagined you, dusty and sussex were that innocent.

Working extra hours will put more bums on the seats of the individual cabs working, because if they're parked up at home, possibly contemplating suicide due to the stress of having bills and very little income to cover them, they simply wont pick up any passengers at all.

I like the way you and dusty think of the public collectively......100 people 10 cabs.......10 jobs each......pmsl.

I love the naive view you have that more cabs = more work.
Shame you don't take that view with derestriction

Work more, make more? Only works for those doing it.
If everyone works more, they still make the same amount. It just takes longer.
The pot hasn't got any fuller in the process.

And your guy will be contemplating suicide at the back of a very long rank.

I'm not the person wanting more cabs......from memory, thats you aint it?

I'm pointing out that a driver wants to earn a specific amount per day......and will stay at work until he gets it.

Thats the reality.

Are you telling me its not quiet out there? Because I have some news for you......its very quiet.

But as long as its a rank in a deregulated area that doesnt matter huh?

Yes it's quiet. I never said it wasn't.

How can I put this in a way your restricted mind can take in?

100 drivers all want to make £50 for their day and are prepared to stick it out until they do.
For that to happen, there has to be at least £5000 of work.
The bad news, there is only £3500 of work in total. (Yes, it's very quiet  )
On average, if they all work the same hours, they will make £35 each.
It doesn't matter if they all work 12 hours or 24 for that matter, so long as they all work the same amount of hours.
Now, some of them may get lucky and make their £50. Others will only make £20. But they will still only make £3500 between them.
No amount of exta hours will put any more money in the pot.

If some drivers work more hours, they will make more at the expense of the rest.
If the rest follow suit, nobody wins. They just all spend longer waiting between jobs.
And that's the reality.

Restricted or derestricted, contemplating suicide or not, makes no difference.

Now you tell us how, in your mind, everyone working more hours will generate a single extra passenger who wasn't already going to take a taxi.

Because a taxi driver goes out wanted to earn a certain amount.....say £50.

If at the end of his shift he has £35....he carries on working till he has £50.

Now no amount of sarcasm, no amount of telling me about bums on seats is going to negate from that fact.

Thats why people drive cabs isnt it to work how little or how much you want, whatever your needs are ? theres not set wages sometimes i go out and earn what i want in 6 hours sometimes it takes 12,ones things for certain it would be a lot longer shifts in a derestricted area..

No sarcasm CC, just pure astonishment.
You really don't have a clue. I'm debating with an intellectual dwarf.
At least I was, now I just don't think your worth the effort.

If you're the best this trade has, we're all fekked.

Because eventually a customer will come to a taxi rank and hire the taxi.....or is that a novel idea in Aberdeen and Dustyland?

The point you are making is one that those in favour of de-limitation can use.

The way I see it, and it happens in reality is that when it's quieter drivers work longer hours.

However the theory that says working longer hours means more money is flawed, unless you are the only driver working those longer hours.

That flaw is why I haven't got a great objection to a maximum working week.

You are seriously in denial, if you seriously think taxi drivers dont work more hours when their takings are low you must be a buffoon.

Thats what I've been trying to point out all day.....drivers are doing more hours for the same money....probably less.

But the point is a fact.....except in re-regulated Aberdeen and of course always regulated Dustyland.....where apparently all drivers completely co-operate, have strict hours and go home so not to harm the income of the next shift Image
