LTI VEHICLES RESPONSE TO OFT REPORT Peter Shillcock, Managing Director, LTI Ltd, commented: "LTI (London Taxis International) Vehicles read with great interest the OFT report into the UK taxi and private hire industry published today. Our first impression was one of surprise that the need for more wheelchair accessible taxis outside London was not given more prominence and that the high standards enshrined in the London (Metropolitan) Conditions of Fitness were not necessarily seen as a model for other cities in the UK. We feel they offer a tried and tested blueprint for cities that wish to have a high quality, recognisable, accessible, durable and manoeuvrable taxi service. All it takes to meet these Conditions is the commitment and investment to provide a vehicle which is fit for purpose. We have always believed that our vehicle - built specifically to meet the London Conditions of Fitness - is the best taxi in the world and the first choice for drivers and passengers alike; a true global icon, recognised worldwide as a symbol of Britain and London. We will await the Government's response in 120 days' time with great interest and trust they will consult fully with the trade and other stakeholders about any proposed regulatory changes. Naturally anything that may affect the livelihoods of drivers and the service received by passengers is central to our business and therefore of vital interest to us. We will strive to play our part in ensuring that their concerns and needs are given the highest priority in any regulatory changes that may ensue as a result of this report. Our export strategy is proving highly successful based on the worldwide recognisability of the London style taxi and we have recently entered a number of new markets including the USA, Spain and Thailand, all of which have placed major orders for vehicles." |

High standards, oh really !!!! Airbags?????? ABS brakes?????? And as for manoeuvrability, is that what the transport research people called a danger? |

I heard that DfT are being rather negative about the LTI safety issue. Only gossip at our local VI, but twas said there were a number of issues, particularly of head restraint/whiplash injury potential. |

Back to the threads topic, if all that LTI has to offer drivers is; i) no airbags ii) no ABS brakes iii) bloody dear to buy iv) bloody dear to run How on earth can they expect us to carry on buying them, when we finally all have a choice?
