Or is this the lull before the May storm? In respect of Chorley they voted on Friday 29/4/05 to issue 7 new licenses, which is in line with the survey reccomendations. Chorley at present have 30 Hackney carriages, when the criteria for issuing the new licenses is agreed, the increased quota will mean a total of 37 Hackneys. Halcrow conducted the survey of which I am sure you have a copy. Regards JD |

Its nice to see a council , that pretends to have a belief in market forces . Except when it affects hackney carrages . There are 100,000 people living in chorley ,the council say 37 taxis meets there needs . They must be very boring and dont go out . Or P H are doing all the work . Or perhaps yet another, bent survey . Gets the council off the hook . |

However I can't see anywhere on said survey where the council has shown where there is a clear benefit for the consumers, and where the council has publicly justified their reasons for the retention of restrictions. It would also be nice if they could address the Government's position that unless a specific case can be made, it is not in the interests of consumers for market entry to be refused to those who meet the application criteria. Or did Halcrow miss that bit?

In fact out of the 38 Authorities that have so far retained a control on numbers, only Liverpool have touched on the aspect of plate premiums. Regards JD |

Apart from my good friends in Halton, who said that because plate premiums were lower than their neighbouring districts, then there was no SUD. 
That one is definately going in M&R part 2.

That one is definately going in M&R part 2. lol actually there are a few but Liverpool struck me as the most pertinent because it suggested that a handful of people held a substantial amount in grey market plate values which was only possible because of the councils policy of restriction. I forget the figures involved but they are substantial. As for Halton, They are on a hiding to nothing, likewise Ellesmere Port and several others. Regards |

It is a major concern , that there is a large number of hackney carriages ,in liverpool that dont even , go on the road . they are bought by members of the cartel . Just to maintain the ever increasing, value of plates .The fact that most of the people, who own them , dont drive them and Can not get drivers for them . They own them, they have better returns on them . 13000 - 40,000 in six years ,better than if they put their money any ware else , property , shares . Even organised crime are implicated in it .Perhaps jacobs was frightend about his loosing his jacobs. fed up over worked fat scouser . |
