Is the NO OFFERS bit, that he/she will accept no offers, or that he/she expects no offers?

![]() Maybe a caution should be added that the whole trade could be ruined if the Government adopt the findings of the OFT blunder. B. Lucky |

B. Lucky Sorry but I should also have pointed out that the quantative restrictions ONLY relate to WAV's so there would be no actuall loss on the plates issued to saloon vehicle's. £42k seems like an awful lot though, when you consider the same rights of work would be available to someone with a 15 year old FX4. Are you saying that if Brighton was de-restricted then 15 years old FX4s would be allowed on but the saloon plates would still have a value and this would be £42k? Or are you talking about somewhere/thing else? Dusty |

As you well know Dusty my area derestricted a few years ago. The derestriction followed the reccomendations of the OFT. We saw a massive influx of very old vehicles some, as stated, 15 years old, who took advantage of the lack of standards imposed by the council for new licenses for WAVs. The situation with the saloons is the most surprising, average plate values of approx £6k have now risen to nearly £10k, the reason for this, I believe, is due to the fact that paying £10k for a saloon plate then buying a decent second hand or even a brand new car is still cheaper than buying a decent professionally converted WAV. This is obviously not even an option in Brighton and other places where plate values exeed the cost of the decent WAVs. Then you must take ino account comfort and vehicle speed, cruising along at 50mph in an old FX4 is as much as you can expect to keep within noise polution levels inside, then of course there is vehicle economy. This is why I believe that the OFT reccomendations will not see any change to the plate premium in most areas and only a decrease in the premium ammount in others. B. Lucky |

I'm assuming you mean following the DDA? However what happened in your manor is evidence of a [edited by admin] licensing department and/or [edited by admin] Councillors. There is nothing un-lawful or un-reasonable for a council to say that any new cars, be they WAV or saloon, shouldn't be older than say 5 years, at the time of first licensing. They could also have an age limit of say 10 years, or a high emission test, which will on it's own get rid of the rubbish, and allow us all to breath a little better. |

Yes but surely the notice given from the DfT, that they want to see all HCs WAV by 2010-2020, will have an effect. Unless those buying saloon plates are just plain stupid.

Unless those buying saloon plates are just plain stupid. ![]() Not pratical though Sussex, the DDA prohibits public services from discriminating the availability of service because of a persons disability. The blanket WAV thing would discriminate and therefore would be in contravention of the DDA. Also what about the able bodied who DON'T want to travel in a WAV, or they not allowed the choice, are you preparing a level playing field just for yourself or for everyone else. B. Lucky |

However what happened in your manor is evidence of a [edited by admin] licensing department and/or [edited by admin] Councillors. haven't I been telling you that for years There is nothing un-lawful or un-reasonable for a council to say that any new cars, be they WAV or saloon, shouldn't be older than say 5 years, at the time of first licensing. We are hoping to get the council to implement this next year They could also have an age limit of say 10 years, or a high emission test, which will on it's own get rid of the rubbish, and allow us all to breath a little better. I know some saloons that are in better condition at 10 years old than some 3 year old cars, also I'm not sure about the legalities of failing a vehicle for roadworthyness without testing it B.
