From the sounds of it I think he is, once upon a time his buddy Jim Taylor wrote a nice article about the effects of deregulation.

Now Skull and his buddy have turned tail and support the deregulationists.

So my point is should Skull and his wanna plate mates get thier plates? after all Skull had a free plate and sold it.

Many councils were once limited and now they are as you say deregulationists.

As for Mr Skull, well he can speak for himself, but when something is right then it's right, and if it takes time for drivers to realise it's right, then so be it.

As did the Masfield plank and the Gateshead liar, but at least with Mr Skull he hasn't a problem with other drivers sharing the spoils with him.

The folks that get my goat are the scumbags in the Manchester TOA who don't want others to get 'free' plates, but are more than receptive when they are offered them. [-X

you have a fair point thier about them accpepting free plates, but the question still remains, is Skull nothing but an opportunist? i believe he is, after allif i was given a free plate i would be overjoyed, but instead i have had to invest in the business, as have the majority in Edinburgh, so why should a couple of "wanna plate mates" come along and scream drivers rights etc?

No 187ums you need me to be whatever justifies your insignificant existence by making it more significant at least in your own mind. You did not invest in a business nor are you a "businessman". At best you are a self-employed taxi driver who was daft enough to invest money in something with an artificial value. Now you are a slave to that little illusion you are so desperately trying to hold on too. As for yours truly I never got a free plate I paid for it and its true value at that. And if numptys like you want to throw money at me for selling it then so be it.

The whole thing is a con and totally dependent on taxi driver’s bowing and scraping to their political masters to keep the little illusion alive.

BTW The truth is 187ums you bought in to the illusion to be something more than your insecurities were telling everyone you were. I bet you can't just wait to tell everyone you meet what a successful "businessman" you are.

Back in 5 mins just nipping out to be sick.

What a dreamer

a question 187ums

do you think all plates should be returned to CEC when you no longer wish them so some one else can get the chance. i have a friend who wants a plate but he just cant aford the price tag thats attached to it. he can aford the cab and all the other stuff but would be putting himself and his family under great stress to pay back anywhere up to 40k+ back so he will just have to keep paying his weekly rental.

i know what my answer is

The taxi owner or “businessman” as you put it is merely a finance manager for the Hire Purchase Company or the bank. First the plate then the vehicle, you pay for everything or in part, depending on the availability of drivers to prop up this madness. Your “business investment” or I should say your “public licence plate” is not much more than a state of penury to keep it alive.

Your “business” cough, cough, is totally dependent on the Local Council rationing licence plates while making sure there is an abundance of labour to drive. There is nothing in this so called “business” you have control over.

 Other than the hours you work to feed the direct debit monster.

Working for the state you most definitely are Alan Sugar you are not.

Yes, many drivers are serfs to the plateholders, while many plateholders are serfs to the banks.

so if it is such an illusion why are you so desperate to "shatter" the illusion?

what will you do if you get your free plate? start moaning about the vehicle guide lines? will you want to be sticking your plastic on to any old banger?

p.s. I have no aspirations to be selling alan sugar selling dodgy merchandise....
