If this isnt an invitation for de-limitation in Warrington, i dont know what is! Quote from Phil Johnson. Head of warrington Borough Council Transport. Warrington Guardian Thursday 16 November 2006. TALKS can sort out potential protests over the night bus service, said the head of transport. Hackney cab drivers are planning meetings about the service from over Christmas. They staged a town centre go-slow earlier this year because they were unhappy with borough council policies. continued... But Phil Johnson, head of transport for Warrington Borough Council, said: "There's an awful lot of people to move at night from the town centre, and there isn't the capacity available all night to remove people. "The hackney cabs do a good job of removing a lot of people. But the night-bus service is designed to move more people so the potential for disorder is reduced. "I think it would be fair to say there has not been as much consultation as we would like but we will be talking to them to see if we can find a solution. "We are not trying to take business off the taxi drivers. We are trying to help the community." |

The crazy thing is that most cab owners would rather more buses than more cabs.
As the pillock from the Scottish taxi fed a year or so ago.

So, imagine the scene. Warrington Borough Council hold a meeting to decide if they want to contineue restricting the number of hackney's in the town. They carry out their own IN HOUSE SURVEY behind closed doors, decide there's enough and will keep the restriction, then award a contract to operate a nightime bus service to a company they are a major shareholder of. "because there isnt enough Taxis to cater for the ammount of people using the town at night" Then they (the Council) put posters in Town centre pubs displaying Hackney rates and promoting the nightly bus service as a cheaper option!! |

The bus invasion was highlighted on TDO several years ago and we said then it was only going to get worse. Very soon you will find buses in Warrington parking outside busy night clubs at closing time, as they do in Manchester. If there is not already a service running past a busy nightclub they will apply for one. I suspect It's the same all over the country. Regards JD |

This is about the whole industry, for once both PH and Hac's are standing shoulder to shoulder and intend to fight it together. |

GOOD . and while you're at it there are lots of issues that affect both the private hire and cab trade, stick together and sort them out as well. I hope you achieve a win.

Maybe it was something to do with the title Geoff. Or it could have something to do with the quote from Phil Thompson where he said "The hackney cabs do a good job of removing a lot of people. But the night-bus service is designed to move more people so the potential for disorder is reduced". But the main thing was that at no time PH were mentioned within the piece. B. Lucky

On 18th December I wrote an article on this forum which maligned and called into question the integrity of Mr B. Eaton and Mr N. Featham. The contents of this article were unfounded and caused concern and distress to both of these people. I would like to publicly retract the accusations and apologise for any damage caused to their integrity either privately or professionally. At no time did they do anything that may be considered remotely underhand or illegal and have always acted with propriety. |

Can't really add to what you said, but surely this forum is open to folks like you to have a moan, and for the folks being moaned at to point out any inaccuracies on this forum. Democracy I believe is the word. That said it's sometimes hard for LOs to front up, but they could register under a different name.
