Taxi Driver Online

Brighton Council have issued the result of Halcrows report. It stats that there is no un-met demand. The only interesting part was a statement that said that there was a need for 150 WAVs from taxi companies to meet demand from wheelchair users. It will be interesting to see how the council react to this statement.

I don't know but I hear a rumour that someone is about to open an office in Brighton and use out of Town vehicles. Maybe they can supply the 150 wavs? lol

We already have one company running an operation like that, court case outstanding, can you give any further info, or were you joshing us sensative Brightonions.

I think TDO has tons of case law concerning P/H cross border hiring but oddly enough we dont have any on Hackney carriage cross border hiring? lol I wonder why?

Rather than hijack this thread on cross border hiring what do you think will happen in respect of these 150 Wav's? Will Brighton do a Bradford and get 10 saloon hackney owners per year to stump up for a WAV?

Somehow i get the idea that they will stop giving council contracta to out of towners thereby making it viable for the indigenous industry to purchase WAVs.just a point in passing theres an election in Brighton in may and just maybe sub standard transport for schoolchildren might be an issue???????????????

It is the same case, say no more. It will be interesting as our council are very PC. A wheelchair user goes in front of the Full council meeting later this month to complain about said issue. Local branch of Fed of Disabled have got their teeth into it. Can't see them doing a Bradford, at mo 5 plates a year being issued. I think PH unions going to ask for increase. Hack unions going to object to that. Same old storey. Recken they will increase but how much depends on PH case and how they go about it. Time will tell.

WTF has the number of WAV's HC's got to do with PH? Have they stopped selling WAV PH's?

If the local PH trade use their brains, and it looks like they might, then the world is their oyster.

Of course the council could mandate all taxis to be WAVs, which would cull a few leeches.

I spoke to a few LO's today as is my national duty lol. I was surprised when one of them told me he didn't know the DfT had issued a best practice consultation document. I wasn't realy surprised he didn't know becaue many others have told me the same thing. Do you think the DfT chain of communication needs improving? lol

crazy thing is if they delimited it wouldnt have that much effect.
loads of drivers woukldnt buy a wav.
and loads of non driving owners would be left without drivers.
a win win situation.
