South of the border, when Conservative transport spokesman Theresa May visited Brighton she expressed concern about the detriment to safety that de-restriction might entail. Perhaps she should have been told that safety ultimately depends on regulation, but it would be interesting to here her views on Brighton and Hove Conservative Councillor Ted Kemble's £35,000 plate premium, which of course depends on the continuation of restricted numbers.

Some things just never change. :(

Thankfully the Tories of Stratford upon Avon, are bang on.

And the existing taxi trade is as thick as pig's poo.

Yesterday, Stratford District Council's licensing committee voted unanimously to lift the restriction on the number of Hackney Carriage Vehicle Licenses in a bid to improve the provision of disabled accessible vehicles in the town.

But the decision has angered Stratford Taxi Trade Association. Jim Bryan, of the association, told the meeting that demand for the wheelchair accessible vehicles had been extremely low. He also said that the association believed that no decision should be made until proper consultation had been carried out.

Wheelchair user Elizabeth Dixon, who is also chairman of the South Warwickshire Access Group, said Mr Bryan's comment about there being no demand for the vehicles was a "very poor defence". Moving the recommendation, chairman councillor Richard Adams said: "It's something that we've got to face up to."

The committee's recommendation will now be considered at the next meeting of the council's Executive on Monday, May 10.

The council said to them "go WAV or we de-limit", they said no, the council will now de-limit.

Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Stratford upon Avon drivers must be lunatics they will soon have to go all WAV anyway.

however the betting is on a change of minds by the executive meeting.

hope its not to late for them.

But didn't this one ask for the laws to be ammended so he could speak at council meetings about taxis?

Search the Argus web-site and you will find some interesting articles on Ted Kemble. :( http://www.thisisbrightonandhove.co.uk/ ... e/archive/

I dont think you mean laws but rules, councillors can apply for dispensation to speak and vote on issues of which they have a vested interest.

This is because a council can beccome unballanced as a result of these opt outs, and the dispensation has widely in the past been given to people like council tenants.

more common is a dispensation to speak but not vote, this was given here once by the government to a council market traded.

in counils like Brighton where every vote could be on a knife edge the councillor could feel that the opposite party or parties will gang up on taxis not as an issue but to get him.

I have looked at the paper site and can find nothing about this fellow, however I can only say that papers are massively inaccurate, all over the country.

Sussex If you dont like him I could request on your behalf that he relinquishes his plate and goes to be a private hire driver, where the magical anything he says or does will be approved of.

the councils stance on taxis has othing to do with Kembles membership of that I am certain.

Geoff

well of course his position as transport spokesman his in conflict with his private life though clearly he has done nothing wrong in seaking dispensation.

we once had a bus driver on the passenger transport committee, no one but me batted an eye lid.

But he didn't decide if more buses should be put on the road, or bus fares, or the colour of the bus, or the standards of bus drivers, or decide on the fitness of other drivers.

I could go on.
