When is the rest of the country going to PROTECT the PAYING public from European drivers who have the rules bent fot them. Why do British drivers have to jump through hoops to get security clearence but European's just need a "good conduct certificate". It's about the rest of the country grew a pair of BO**OCKS and stood up for Equal rules for everyone and don't have rules for the British drivers [full of restrictions] and few rules which are rarely cheched upon for any other nationality who want's to work here. I take my hat off to North Tyneside and Bournmouth any other L.A who are doing something about this issue to protect the public. All we ask is ONE rule for ALL and if you want to do a job comply with the rules and don't expect special treatment and play the race card or get the P.C Brigade to fight your corner also a company who is making money from the importation of these drivers all over this country. WAKE UP PLYMOUTH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Is it possible to have one rule for all when you have 343 licensing authorities? Regards JD |

A good conduct letter is better than nothing, but I know what you mean. But if the taxi/PH trade insisted EU drivers had to wait, say 6 years, then we would lose in the courts. Thus we are where we are.

But wouldn't you say that they [the local authorities] have a "DUTY OF CARE " To the public and they should not worry about the P.C brigade. When they [Foreign drivers] are rented accommodation a vehicle and then office rent by a single entity does this not seem like legal slavery????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Or am i the only one [apart from all the czech drivers who have dumped there cars at the airports and gone home] who thinks this? |

I'm not too sure on this occasion it is the PC brigade, more like EU law.

Indeed it is legalised slavery, but the bit that's important is the legalised bit. |

However just because it is LEGALISED doesn't make it right does it. The original slavery with the africans was legal until it was abolished by brave poeple who were in the position of power to do so. It's a pity there are only few people with the moral fibre to stand up and be counted against these people. And these people seem only interested in making as much money from these people before they see the light and go home and then put thier experience on the web. |

I couldn't agree more, but what can we do about it? I suppose in time the newer EU members will become more prosperous and their folks wont need to come over here. Or it will become harder to gain a license, so they wont choose the taxi/PH trade. I think other than that we are lumbered.

I have no problem with EU residents who want to work in this country, BUT at least make them comply with the SAME rules as we do. Also stop worrying about the race card being played. When my kids get in a cab i want to know they are as safe as they can be. |

I do, particularly where a good grasp english is a necesary part of the job. You've seen how long some of these take to pull of the rank sometimes.
