Just an update on St Edmudsbury....... It goes before th committee on 6th April with one of the options to remove quantity restrictions in favour of quality. |

Plymouth plate numbers increased by 1 last year to 360 after JP got a token plate. Still says 359 on your list. |

From what I can gather Worthing have now delimited. This report from last week says it all i.e. they haven't got the money for a further SUD survey and the trade don't want to fund it even though they admit it will mean delimitation as the only option available to the committee. The fact that there are still several plates available from previous 'managed growth' issues, must have also played it's part.

The latest numbers now equate to the following. Total number of Authorities that restrict Hackney carriage numbers = 93 or 27.1%. Total number of Authorities yet to decide on policy = 2 or 0.6%. Total number of Authorities that do not restrict or have voted to remove restrictions at a future date = 248 or 72.3%. Total number of licensing Authorities in England & Wales 343. Regards JD |

Yes, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Liverpool, and a couple more that I have forgot. But thankfully for many 1000s of new hackney owners they are few and far between.

This whole situation just illustrates how totally haphazard our system of local authorities is. Why can nobody tell me why the system cannot be standardised? Well, because it creates jobs for the very people who dream up the new rules! How would some of them fare in the real world, I wonder. |

It is because locals are best placed to decide. You want a standardised system? make all local authorities undertake demand surveys at a specific point to justify / clarify what is best for the public. The current system, however haphazzard is IMO better than a blanket policy across the land where a faceless person makes unscrutinised decisions. CC |
