Post subject:  St Eds remove quantity controls.

The following applies to Thanet.

Thanet. Decided on 17/5/05 to remove restrictions and also create one Taxi zone. That policy is now rescinded because of opposition from the taxi trade which brought about a judicial review in 2005 and subsequently a survey of unmet demand in 2007. Thanet do License limousines and two vehicles are currently licensed.

st Edmundsbury council deregulated on Tuesday along with Bristol, that now leaves.

Total number of Authorities that restrict Hackney carriage numbers 92 or 26.8%.

Total number of Authorities that have yet to decide on policy 2 or 0.6%.

Total number of Authorities that do not restrict or have voted to remove restrictions at a future date, 249 or 72.6%.

If six more councils remove numbers control then the figure will be down to 25% for those maintaining a policy of quantity control.

On my travels i've come across several councils who won't license limousines because they don't meet the private hire conditions set by the licensing authority these mainly relate to left hand drive and age of vehicle. I've decided to add the data of those councils that do and those that don't license limousines or novelty vehicles.

Regards
