SKDC is to be challenged by Stamford town council over the limitless issuing of plates and the lack of enforcement members of the council have raised a petition in the first step of what is expected to be a long drawn out battle issues being raised include

1) lack of rank space leading to up to 50 hackneys queueing up and down broad street causing major problems for other traffic on wednesday to friday nights

2) the lack of any provision for a rank on market day making it difficult for the elderly and disabled to visit the market

3)the constant forcing of drivers off the rank during the daytime by delivery drivers insisting on using it as an unloading bay and the large numbers of private cars illegally parking on the rank to use bank ATM's and visit the town

4) the number of drivers deliberately cutting in front of the queue and grabbing fares from the taxis legitimately at the front of the rank

5) lack of any proper enforcement (the enforcement officer only visits the town about 5 or 6 days a year !)


Its a shame that they have failed to take on board a number of other issueswhich are equally problematic such as

Dual plated vehicles who operate on PH plates in Peterborough by day and on SKDC hackney plates in Stamford at night

Drivers refusing short fares when they are front rank

PH cars from outside the district sitting in the town centre trying to pick up fares

The whole of Lincolnshire could do with sharing their enforcement officers? Certainly Sk and South Holland, City plus NK etc? What do you think?

Our enforcement officer is USELESS I wouldn't reccommend anyone sharing him he does nothing but give excuses for doing nothing

latest rumour being circulated by Worrier Wilshire allegedly from a confidential source within SKDC is that the council is proposing to close ALL RANKS based on the fact that there is too much overspill at the current rank causing problems for other motorists.

There is a meeting next tuesday but with the local council at which there may or may not be SKDC representation. Unfortuately every loudmouth on the rank is now getting an invite instead of a select band of sensible and knowledgable drivers Watch this space but i can see things going NOWHERE. One thing councils hate is a rabble they would much rather deal with one or two repesentatives

I'm not too sure getting rid of all taxi ranks would be viewed by anyone as reasonable.

But we are dealing with some right royal thicko councillors.

well after the local town council meeting on tuesday night they are taking up the challenge of tryng to bring pressure to bear on the district council to sort some of the problems out

I also received a very terse letter from the District Council this morning asking me to submit suggestions for a suitable site for a rank on market days so I think cages are being rattled
