The way technology is moving, before long drivers will be made redundant.
when someone calls they will appear on your PC screen and you will press any button on the keyboard and the cab will find its own way there and pick them up.

You must mean a 'Polski taksówkarz', or rather a 'taksówkarz z Polski'.

TY. I appreciate those comments.

That's not a bad position to hold.

I just wonder which category you fit into when it comes down to being a realist, optimist or pessimist?

Great post Mr JD!

For the record I'm a cautiously, optimistic, realist.

And OFT956 already mentioned in passing that GPRS phones & GPS dispatch systems could soon be advanced to a stage where the customer phoning for a taxi would be able to be directly connected to the nearest free vehicle's driver.

The mind boggles as to what will be realistically enforceable in 10 years time.

i once rang a spanish taxi number from the UK and was suprised it was straight into a taxi on the costa brava who quoted me for a pickup

now tell me, what transport regs (even 1980) could have foreseen that? and i wont mention emails/GPRS

exciting int it
