I do not say it is true but I have been informed by a number of sources that the PCO are considering making Fairways obsolete by 2012. (Aparently it has something to do with door height & the disabled) There is no literature to this effect on the PCo/TFL website.
Edinburgh managed to get rid of the Fairway model under similar circumstances.
To be honest, by 2012, the newest Fairway will be approaching 15 years old, so I'd rather hope there won't be too many around by then.
I had an H reg up until 2005, but it was immaculate and looked like a new taxi, I spared no expense keeping it like that, as with the next one 'R621' and the latest one which is a 2005 TX2.
Like clothes, your taxi can say a lot about your outlook on life and professional standards.
Sadly most of the in service London licensed Fairways are now owned by the fleet rental folks, most of them look like they've been used as a chicken shed.
