Regards to a badge renewal (dual PH and HC)

Just had my renewal robbery notice

If (in theory) a LA can only charge us what it costs them, blah blah blah, how come if I renew more than 16 days before expiry its £80 but after that its £120?

how can the renewal costs (to the LA) rise 50% on the stroke of midnight between 16 days due and 15 days due..............................(especially if thats a saturday night)

ill be renewing in time to save the £40 but it seems odd to me, especially as on the renewal forms the £120 fee is listed as "late renewal fee...£120, when that applies 15 days from the end date of a current badge...how is that late?

I have seen this elsewhere, I know up here they normally increase fees after the renewal date therefore your better off renewing before, but that is a general increase in licensing fees.

I would have thought they would have to justify the difference in costs, after all does it cost more to license a driver after the date specified? Somehow I doubt it.

might be the same as our council. if you renew before your old one expires its one price,it you let it expire then apply you are classed as a new applicant and have to re-sit knowledge test again etc that cost extra

in Falkirk Council if you fail to pay before the expiry date, you're finished as a hack and have to go private hire or put on a WAV to continue as a taxi. either way you are classed as a new applicant, with all the cost implications that ensues.

I can understand the additional payments if you have failed to pay by the date your badge was up for renwal but in Wannabee's case the price goes up even before the badge runs out.

indeed

renew with less than 15 days left and its 50% more than with 16 days left...

trouble is, if i rock the boat, they may make all renewals £120....

theyve just reduced medicals from £116 something/ish to £35...

I wonder if vehicle plate renewals are discounted if done early...

Probably because it is the rules  Now where have I heard that excuse!

You can bet your bottom dollar they will hide behind some hidden away rules, and will then say "rules is rules". Adding that if you want to write to so and so to get it changed then you can, who will then pass the buck to someone else until they get you so peed off that you give up.

Tell you what, this whole industry is screwed up and something needs to be done about it, to start off with licence fees should be the same anywhere, if it needs to be subsidised fine, but not set by councils, it is an essential industry in any town.
Also the rules regulations and conditions should also be the same same were ever, non of this 1847,1976 and 1985 stuff for gods sake we are living in the 21st century.
I also work in the road haulage industry and that used be the same quite a few years ago until it got sorted, same licence fees same rules were ever you are in the country.
I am not saying TAXI and PHV rules should be the same but but both should be the same from lands end to john o' groats.
At the end of the day you wont get any were with these idiot councils until they are put in there place.......

its only one small step from saying +8 passenger seats is a VOSA matter (o-licences,etc) to saying ALL passengers carried for hire/reward should be the same, bang go some very cushy local council jobs.... and the "turkey in a barrel" MOTs, what a shame
