It doesn't actually.. when you throw it at the council's legal team, it keeps them busy for a month or two .. tell they find out You are wrong.... and then makes them feel clever....

Hi guys.

I have a PH vehicle which failed a routine test. Are the LA legally allowed to remove the plates immediately once they have served a suspension notice? They've advised me they will return the plate to me immediately once I have had the fault with the vehicle repaired.

Thanks.

They do it round here if it's failed a spot check. The plate is then returned when the faults have been fixed.

If you put the car in for test early (say with two weeks left) and it fails they keep your plate, but if you photocopy and laminate a new plate you can still work. To stop you working they have to issue a written notice of suspension, issued by an officer who authority in writing to issue such notice. Until last year cabs in Manchester had run for years like that. When the council found out they changed the rules and hushed everything up. They did not want to look like Pratts.
