Whenever I ask my friends about how they book a taxi I get the same response:

Me: How do you book a taxi?
My friend: I call them.

Me: How do you get the number?
My friend: Google.

Me: How do you know the price is fair?
My friend: I don't

Me: And if you do want to know?
My friend: I call another company.

Me: How do you get their number?
My friend: Google again? Yellow pages?

Me: And how do you know now the price is fair?
My friend: I don't. Well you don't expect me to call 10 different companies to ask for a price.

Me: No, I tell them, there is only one place you need to go: http://www.cabmania.com, you enter your ride details and they do it all for you. You get quick prices from various taxis and minicab companies working in your area, this will guarantee you the best price. It's quick, easy and has a friendly interface.

My friend: Well that's brilliant, but I prefer my own driver, he owns an executive car, always on time, I'm willing to pay extra for that.

Me: That's completely fine, on http://www.cabmania.com you can choose between several offer based on the service as well, drivers are rated by previous customers so you can choose a 5 star driver for an extra more.

My friend: Well, I'm convinced now. My next ride is http://www.cabmania.com.
:D

Are any of these sites any good?

eg, £33/Qtr for leads?

Should we set up a TDO database?

had a look at these after an unsolicited email the other day - bit pricey - £1 a day if you get any work from them or not, 50p booking fee if you ctually get a job from them and they charge you 8p per text message with a quote request on it - so thats a minimum of 30 quid a month with no gaurantee of any jobs - ive been on it a week ( free trial) and not had a single email yet)

On the other hand - QUotemetaxi / 118118 i get several quote enquiries a day for free and hav had 3 jobs from it this week :D

But if we ban spammers like this then folks out there wont see the utter contempt the trade have for these sites.

TDO gets visits from about a dozen or so a year, and none of them make a bean.

They are dreamt up by so-called whizz kids who think they are ahead of the game, when in fact there isn't a game being played.

118me WAS cheap enough to use with just a 1/4trly subs then they got greedy, then they backed off a bit when revenue fell, still a bit dear
