Basically some one I know has been refused access to the train station by the association that runs it. You have to be a member of the association £200 before you can get a permit £620.

Now he has recently purchased a cab which came with the permit and was assured that he would have to just pay £200 association membership and it would carry over, however the association chairman returned his cheque after he had worked there for nearly three weeks referring him to association secretary - who is unavailable for what ever reason.

Basically this driver had an issue with another one of these association people once outside the station and once when he had to pick up from the station lights - at the time he was just a driver and they wouldn't renew his fee.

Now what are the legal implications and any advice would be appreciated...

Who's name is on the permit? Is it the station people or the association people?

If it's the station people I would take it up with them, if it's the association I would make a complaint to the station people saying they are issuing permits unfairly.

All that said maybe it's time for you and your colleagues to make a bid for the ranking rights.

It's a first great western permit and this association collect the money etc, but why would you have to be a member to get hold of the permit, that's the bit I can't get my head around, if you're not a member you can't get a permit.

now in the real world, the train companies would kick us all out and let the PH company service the rank, who in turn would pay an absolute fortune to the comapny, if you could let me know where in the real world, not laa laa land the train company pays the drivers - I'll go and join them.

TT its the situation of todays cab trade, thats the reality - back stab, undercut etc

e.g. If a supermarket offers a tender for taxi companies to install a phone for its customers then it becomes a bidding war and you'll always get some one who will bid whatever it takes knowing too well there are those companies (im afraid to say the minority) who wont get dragged into a greedy auction.
No different to your regular Joe Public who thinks he can hold you to ransom and threaten to go and take his business elsewhere.

If EVERY cab driver and company stuck together with the same principles then what a wonderful world it would be. They could all be part of the national taxi drivers union of which you could consider yourself its head honcho!

It didn't happen here. Sainsbury sent letters to all the local company's asking them to tender. Not one company sent in a tender. =D> =D> =D> =D>

C4bby is sadly correct , the chap in question has obviously been blackballed by another association member, I think there's case law from Leeds on it. But we've seen stories on tdo from up and down the east coast line over the years, especially when we had members post from York.
