Our council have refused to issue a badge to a driver because the DVLA driving license check has not yet come back. I don't know what they expect it to reveal because the driver in question has recently got married and has just received her new license in her married name showing that she has no convictions.

Get her to take the licence to the council.

You would think it is that simple wouldn't you, but no, they are insisting that they must have the report from the DVLA. Even if it arrives tomorrow morning she will not be able to get her badge until next week because no one works in the licensing department on a Friday!!!

How long has it been since the DBS check was submitted?
July - September are always the worst months

They've only got to phone up and ask the DVLA his entitlement to drive. He needs to phone up the DVLA and give them the OK for the Council to phone up on his behalf. That's what I did when they were on a go slow a few years ago.

Apparently the DVLA will soon, or has already done so, not be issuing the paper part any longer, so how will a council know if there are any endorsements without phoning

Found it

by having the applicants signed permission to check a DVLA licence, which we have here already

We pay £5.00 for the check and it would seem that the Council can either use snail mail, the internet, fax or phone to get the information. Ours seem only to use snail mail. The applicant has been told that the licensing officer has rang to chase it up but "they are not the easiest people to deal with."

See Pepipoo for details on how bad Swansea are at dealing with anything...except requests from private parking companies who want driver details to issue their illegal "fines" to.

Do you believe in coincidences?
The driver emailed a copy of her license and DBS to the Licensing officer and also a link to the DVLA website that tell you of the different ways to get the info. At the same time I sent in a freedom of information request asking what information the council receive from the DVLA, to which I received a copy of my last DVLA check.
Lo and behold, the driver can pick their badge up after 16.00 this afternoon.
No it could just be that the DVLA check came back this morning, if you believe in coincidences.
