This reply from the DBS themselves....

Thank you for your email dated 28 December 2014. This has been passed to me for reply.

For a small annual subscription of just £13 (free for volunteers) you can have your DBS Certificate kept up-to-date and take it with you from role to role, within the same workforce, where the same type and level of check is required.

By subscribing to the new service you could save yourself a lot of time and money depending upon how many DBS checks you have needed in the past.

It is however the employers decision whether or not they accept a previously obtained certificate. No cost is incurred by the employer as it is for applicants to apply. You may find the following information helpful.

Based on that it would seem that we have been led up the garden path regarding the "you will only ever need the one DBS check"

I was contemplating doing the yearly payment. But nah. Just going to get one done when the council ask me for it.

You found out why yours was returned yet?

If we have a 3 year badge we still have a CRB every year.
